Hey all! I'm making a comeback! Sights set on IMMT 2021. I loved Ironman racing back in the 2008-2011 range, but then my wife and I had kids and I got out of triathlon. Still did a ton of running, but no tris.

Anyways, here's why I'm reaching out. I'm wiping off the dust on my 2010 Specialized S Works Transition. I need new cables and housings. Where do I go to order? Any standard lengths/ diameters that you recommend? I have all the tools to cut/crimp, but I still fear over/under ordering. Thanks in advance! Feels good to be back!

I think I overestimated the activity on this forum! It was the best 10 years ago! Bummer!

Ha!  Yeah, it's a little different here now.  Most of us still around are here because the of the couple of mentor groups that are still around or utilizing the training log (or like me, both).  I've been around since 2007 and I'd say it peaked maybe 2013 or so before Facebook took over the world.

As for your original question, I'd look at eBay.  When I did my bike build I was looking at cabling there (though I eventually wimped out and had someone who knows what they're doing do it ).

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I'm on the FB groups too. "You know you're an Ironman when..."
I also re-found Slowtwitch (am I allowed to say that here?). Back 10 years ago it was mostly tough guys who thought you were crap if you didn't finish under 11 hours. That appears to have cooled off a bit!

Thanks for the wrench tips! I called my local LBS (walk of shame walking in with gray hair and a little belly) and picked up a set from them!

In terms of where... there are tons of online sources but I tend to buy from E-bay or Amazon these days... Ribble, Merlincycles are good ones too. Depends on the item. In terms of cables/housing Jagwire makes decents kits with included parts that work for a lot of different situations. I went wireless shifting on my bikes with SRAM E-tap so only brake wires for me these days.

I went with the Elite kit last time... really like it and going forward all I have to do is replace the brake cable and liner.

Interesting time to jump back into the sport.
