Wow. So much there.
Should the lead car have argued with the police? Did the police car see the participant or just think that was a random vehicle that shouldn't be driving on the course?

Should Luis have ignored the lead car and followed the course markings?

Why didn't the Tesla auto-brake when it detected a bicycle in the camera? Where is the footage from the Tesla of the crash?

Also geez thank goodness he wasn't badly hurt!!
And I hope I would have that kind of grit to get back up and get back on the course and still finish second.

There are always heated debates when cyclists get hit by cars.  Usually, comments come from a lynch mob cycling community that blames the motorist for being a cyliphobe and guilty of hate crimes.  I tend to think that things go both ways since there are a ton of cyclists that don't follow the basic bike safety rules that everyone was taught where I grew up in elementary school.  But in a race, where everything is marked and designed to offer the athletes the safest course possible, something like this should have never happened.  What a mess?
