Hey there. My name is Nikos, I'm 20 and I'm from PA. I figure the earlier i get started the more time i have to figure things out. I've always wanted to do triathlons ever since i did a tri relay 5 years ago in del. I was a distance runner and swimmer in highschool, but i haven't ridden a bike for years (or own one for that matter). I will definitely be doing at least one next year after I get into better shape. Running and swimming are like second nature to me, but I know nothing about biking. Any suggestions on training and/or a bike? Can't wait to do my first

Nikos

Welcome!  Does the PSU part of your name stand for Penn State?  I went to school there - great place!

As far as biking, start looking around for used ones.  Or even start using a stationary bike at a gym.  Try to get in a long steady ride once a week and a session with intervals once a week (or so).

Good luck!

Welcome Nikos, sounds like you have a pretty good starting point to start out, if you don't have a bike yet a good start is the gym on a stationary trainer, its a good start until you get a bike

Hi Nikos, and welcome to the site! I also did not own a bike before starting to train, so what I did was buy a decent (but not fabulous) bike for about $600. After a couple of years if I'm still with the sport (which I'm guessing I will be, barring injury), I'll invest in a better bike with more of the bells and whistles than my current one. Just thought! Good luck with your training!

Thanks alot everyone for the advice about the bike. I was lucky to find a friend at school (Penn State) that is going away for a semester who has a bike that he is letting me use. Hopefully that will give me some time to get into shape and to save up some money to get a road bike for the spring. Thanks again and I'll be sure to post up my first race and results.
