Pre-race routine:

ate a protein bar and some egg whites. Got my bike all ready the night before. Got to the event at 6 am for a 7:30 start. It was cold!
Event warmup:

  • 19m 33s
  • 2 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile

it was cold, so i ran with a light shirt on. I got super hot that was not good. Need a light long sleeve running shirt.
What would you do differently?:

different shirt.
Transition 1
  • 02m 56s

changing my shirt really threw me off.
  • 1h 15m 54s
  • 22 miles
  • 17.39 mile/hr

i loved the biking. I was passing people on hills left and right. (actually--mostly on the left ;-)) It was awesome! There were two other girls that we just kept competing against each other on the biking. We would pass each other constantly. It was fun.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe try and go a little harder up the hills..but those were killer! maybe toe warmers for cold bike rides.
Transition 2
  • 02m 7s

i need to learn to jump out of my shoes on the bike.
  • 20m 56s
  • 2 miles
  • 10m 28s  min/mile

my feet were killing me the first mile or so. Felt like i was still in my bike shoes.
What would you do differently?:

bricks, bricks and more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

i was so cold. Remember to have a sweatshirt away from the trasnsition area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to become a better runner...

Event comments:

good race. Already planning on next year....

awesome job! it was a cold day. i couldn't feel my toes off the bike. they were letting people in one by one to get clothes out of the transition area, so i was able to get a jacket and pants...but pretty soon that line was loooong! it was cold, darnit! they should have let a few more people in at a time to get warm up clothes. anyway, fantastic job! second run is always tough. a seasoned triathlete told me once that on average, during the second run in a du, most people add a full minute per mile to their run 1 average. amazing, huh? you only added 30 seconds per mile! not bad at all!

Great job! Looks like we could have done it together - we were close What were you wearing, maybe you passed me? Joking but seriously regarding long sleeve shirts I picked one up at Target (blue with gray side inserts, I was one of at least 4 girls wearing it) and it was perfect. I did wear my sleeveless dry shirt underneath, just in case I was hot. But it was perfect.

It really was cold. I had numb toes and I am pretty sure the reason why my legs were like jello was from the cold air. Great race and I will see you next year because I will be back!!!
