Total Time = 1h 47m 54s
Overall Rank = 906/2596
Age Group = Recreational
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

ate toast 5:30 am, banana 7:00am. Drank water and gatorade. Needed to eat much more. Started race at 9:40am.
By time my wave started I had lost all motivation to race. Wanted to go home and go back to bed. Did not sleep the 3 nighnts leading up to race due to traveling.
Event warmup:

1 mile bike to race site
Swim
  • 20m 3s
  • 750 yards
  • 02m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Scared to death to start and throughout course. Almost drowned and wanted to quit until after first bouy. Rolled on side to breathe so I wouldn't enhale water. Exhausted and disoriented after race.
What would you do differently?:

More practice in open water. Fine tune technique to use much less energy. eat more before race
Transition 1
  • 05m 19s
Comments:

way too long. Swim left me disoriented and I lost complete focus on what I needed to do.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, eat/drink on bike. Run to bike and out of transition area.
Bike
  • 49m 5s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Gel shot at transition
What would you do differently?:

Practice shifting and drinking in motion. Improve technique to gain more power and use less energy. Use clips.
Transition 2
  • 01m 40s
Comments:

Started gel shot finished half way through run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitioning. Eat/drink on run not at trans area.
Run
  • 30m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Exhausted and very hot. Starting race so late made the course even hotter. Sprinted into finish. Need to practice running on hills and interval training.
What would you do differently?:

Replenish more prior to race. Pick up the pace.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of sleep for the 3 nights leading up to the race. Stress due to numerous motor home repairs. Needed to eat and drink much more morning of race. Race starting 1 hour late. Fear of swim distance and lack of motivation to race by the time wave started.

Event comments:

Lots of effort to get to race. Only saw Keri for a few minutes before and after. Would like to enter next year to actually make my original goal of 1:35 or better, but getting to race was a huge expense and very exhausting. Should not have given myself any expectations of finishing time especially since I hadn't seen the course. Race was more of a headache than a thrill and I was just glad to get it over with.
2nd Tri I completed, working toward goal of 3 this year.

Great job - way to work through those starting/swim jitters. The stress of getting to the starting line is sometimes worse than the race itself.

Congrats!

I've been looking for your race report! Next year - a BT meet point or something.

Great race - and you swim was not so bad!!!

I know about the race being a headache to get to and I only live downtown! They need to work on that for next year!

good luck on your next tri.

Nice job Sheri. Your times look pretty darn good from this angle! Your fear of the swim does not seem to have hindered you too badly -- look out once you conquer that!! I know the feeling of waiting for the start of the race and wondering what the heck you are doing there, and wanting to be at home. But you got through those demons, and you did a great job. I do hope you enjoy your next one a bit more than it seems you enjoyed this one. Train, but try not to have too high an expectation of your times.

Congrats, Nancy

Good job Sheri. You rock. For your first tri I'm sure it was all overwhelming but you did good on the swim, bike and run. Can't wait until next year. So good to hear about your race. I'm so proud of you. O.
