Subject: RE: 2005 Ironman USA - I'm In! The bike will be the easiest of my 3 events. As long as I hold a steady pace and continue to eat and drink regularly, I should come off the bike with enough in my legs to run 10-15 miles. The rest I probably will suffer through, but I'm finally figuring out the secret to all this is finding your rhythm, the one which you can keep up for hours on end and just stick to it. My half-Ironman in 4 weeks time will be a good barometer as to how much more I need to work on in the next year. I can remember years ago the first time I did a century on the bike. It felt horribly difficult and I swore I'd never do another one. Now I do 7 or 8 per year and have done a half dozen Double-Centuries. And the secret was the same...don't start out too hard, hold your pace, and eat and drink more often than you think you should. Max |
