Comments:

Not entirely sure if I would feel the 'love' in the legs to push this race. After the first hundred yards or so felt able to get 'in the zone' so opened up to see what I could do and for how long. Mile 1 and 2 were around 7:06 per mile. After mile 2, I developed the dreaded side stitch so worked with that for a bit on a little slower pace. Hit mile 3 just under 22 min and 5k probabaly under my PR of 22:30.
After 5k I walked a bit to work out the stitch then ran but at a little slower pace thru till mile 5. Around mile 5 Isis came up behind me and gave me hell for slowing down!! Coached me into a faster pace for the last mile or so. Glad she did because I would not have PR'd.

What would you do differently?:

nothing. I know I should be thinking about negative splitting and pacing thru the race but I am trying to run faster longer right from the start so thats what drives me now.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some beer with the beer goddess. One of the best features of this race is the FREE beer after the race!! lol..they ran out of 8 kegs in s hort bit of time!!!

Aslo got a massage after the race. Felt really, really good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

side stitch.

Event comments:

This yearly event is organized, lots of fun with a beautiful flat course. Cool to be in the company of other firefighters who are into running.

Nice race, great pace.  Beer afterward was even better.

We were thinking of you at the Baystate mary.

Congratulations on a great race and PR. What a perfect day!

I'm almost glad I couldn't make it because I wouldn't have been able to drink the beer, since I had to work 3-11 today.

You are SO on a roll- ..7min miles in your immediate future for sure..Nice pacing... however The beer goddess does NOT prefer to barf, it ruins the free beer experience.....Beautiful course & fun event..Great job out there today-& Congrats on PR.!!

I think barfing would actually be worth it, in this instance, Glen.....one KNOWS they've pushed and exceeded their limit (how else can you find it?), but

BARFING CLEARS THE "CANVAS" for a pure beer sipping experience. LOL LOL

Congrats on your PR, good on Isis for pushing your a$$ to go faster!
