We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees, but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. George Carlin |

Elite 2661 DC Metro, slowly working my way to NC | Subject: RE: Time to stop....and think I like it. Through a Series of Unfortunate Events, I was able to make a lot of lovely changes to my life, much to the utter horror of some of my coworkers... I've added life to my years, slow food, love, and much more laughter. I will never forget the awe of a little one at an 8K last spring when *I* careened over to her side of the course to snag a high five - I don't know who it may have meant more to, her or me. I'll admit I live in too much space, but that's for the dog - all he knows is he has a yard and loves it. |

Resident Curmudgeon 25290 The Road Back | Subject: Snopes says: "George Carlin very emphatically denied he had had anything to do with "Paradox," a piece he referred to as "a sappy load of shit," and posted his comments about being associated with this essay on his own website. http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/paradox.asp George Carlin: "PARADOX OF OUR TIME" One of the more embarrassing items making the internet/e-mail rounds is a sappy load of **** called "The Paradox of Our Time." The main problem I have with it is that as true as some of the expressed sentiments may be, who really gives a ****? Certainly not me.I figured out years ago that the human species is totally ****** and has been for a long time. I also know that the sick, media-consumer culture in America continues to make this so-called problem worse. But the trick, folks, is not to give a ****. Like me. I really don't care. I stopped worrying about all this temporal bullshit a long time ago. It's meaningless. (See the preface of "Braindroppings." Another problem I have with "Paradox" is that the ideas are all expressed in a sort of pseudo-spiritual, New-Age-y, "Gee-whiz-can't-we-do-better-than-this" tone of voice. It's not only bad prose and poetry, it's weak philosophy. I hope I never sound like that. "www.georgecarlin.com Edited by the bear 2006-10-24 5:17 AM |

Mr. Carlin prefers that no one think that the "sappy load of shit" came from him. But you're welcome! Edited by the bear 2006-10-24 8:24 AM |
