Pre-race routine:

Spent the night at a hotel in Worcester with Evelyn and Donna. We were up at 4 and out the door about a half hour later. I wanted to park at a lot up the street from the race so we could leave whenwe wanted. If we parked at the lake we'd be stuck there til the very end. We all had a 2 hour ride home so that was not going to happen. Arrived before 5, dropped Donna and our stuff off at the lake then went to park. Got coffee then Evelyn and I rode our bikes to the lake. Set up our stuff, went down to the water and watched the bouys being placed. I went for a short swim, water was nice.
Event warmup:

Did another short swim before getting into the chute with my wave.
Swim
  • 14m 8s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

goggles were leaking at the start. Had to stop and readjust. Swimming in a blender. Arms and legs everywhere. Never had a space to call my own. Had trouble getting a good rythym going. But overall pleased with my time.
Transition 1
  • 05m 9s
Comments:

I got out of the wetsuit after leaving theexit chute. The transition area was quite a distance from the lake and I knew it would be easier to do it without the wetsuit on. This transition area was HUGE. So that and it's distance from the lake made for a long T1. I was pretty quick putting on shoes and helmet, but it was pretty far to the exit and there were people walking. I just ran around them. Saw Donna in T1 and we were gone.
Bike
  • 43m 33s
  • 12.34 miles
  • 17.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I loved this course. I doubt I'll do this race next year, but I'll do the FIRM's version of Webster a few weeks earlier. Same course without the Danskin bells and whistles, and a lot less people. Might volunteer to help with the swim for Danskin. I really like the whole "swim angel" concept. Especially great for all the first-timers involved in a race of this size.
Transition 2
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

ran all the way back to the far end of the transition area. Passed a much older woman who informed me that she had to pee! I told her to go in her shorts and rinse her legs with a water bottle.....I wonder what she did!?
What would you do differently?:

nothing, it was fine.
Run
  • 30m 20s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

gave up all my time on the run. Left knee was killing me. Scared to go to ortho dr, scared not to.
Post race
Warm down:

nothing really. It was raining by the time I finished. crossed the line, grabbed a water, headed over to transition area. Found friends, said goodbye to max and we left. Back to the hotel (and our late checkout time) to shower and have lunch before we all hit the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

oh, come on now....you know the answer to this already!

Event comments:

Danskin & FIRM always do a good job.

Course: hilly. The course description even said hilly. No sugar coating it. A 4-hill climb on the first half then a nice big downhill with a 90 degree right turn at the bottom. Fun! I admit that I used my granny gear today, the first time in a long time. Went out too fast, as usual, and had to make an effort to slow down a bit so I could catch my breath, otherwise I never would have made it up that hill. Was looking for Evelyn the whole time, riding as if I might catch her! LOL I was almost back to the lake when I passed her heading out on the run, looking pretty good and speedy I should add.

I didn't go to Falmouth!!  I never even picked up my packet.  I figured I'd be so close to the cutoof time because I'm really not ready to do 7 miles.  So I went bike riding with Evelyn and Max instead.  A wise decision, we had a great time.
