Run
Comments: I was able to keep my pace fairly fast for the whole run. The hills and interval training is paying off, although I obviously need more. I don't know exactly how they've measured the route, as it feels longer than my typical 5k route; maybe I just need to run different routes than I normally do. I suspect that if the race was early a.m., or late p.m. (rather than 6:30), I'd run faster when it's cooler. What would you do differently?: Hmm, I'm not sure there's much more to do, except work on the speed. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, hydrated, put ice cubes on my noggin to cool down. It was SO HOT! What limited your ability to perform faster: My legs and lungs? Event comments: The post-race activities are awesome! Free burgers and hot dogs, potato salad, chips, water and sodas. I scored a WHOLE BOX of Harvest Bars (Cherry Crunch - YUM!), some Hammer gels and some other cool stuff. They gave any race belts and some other things, too. They really put on a cool race series. PB&J and some potato salad, apple juice, about 2 hours before the race. Hydrated perfectly all day long. I forgot to grab an energy bar out the door, but didn't really miss it.
Stretched, walked around to loosen up. It was very hot, and I didn't want to overdo the warmup. Stretching and walking seem to work much better for me, than jogging around to warm up.
