Pre-race routine:

Arrived about an hour early, and took in the scenes. this being my second 10K, it was interesting.
Event warmup:

Walked, Jogged, Jumped, Stretched
Run
  • 1h 05m 17s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Went out too fast. Died around 2.5 mile mark. Hung on to finish, probably only because my car was parked behind the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

I am new to this running thing, and I am not a runner. I need to keep training, and learn to run the right pace at the right time. Otherwise I will literally die during the Half Mary in February.
Post race
Warm down:

I grabbed a water and a banana and walked to my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training the previous couple of weeks. Going out too fast.

Hi Keith! Congrats on getting through the 10k ... sorry it wasn't a stellar experience for you, but there are those days that it's just not there. Regardless of your motivation for finishing .... you finished!! How many hundreds of thousands of people in a couple hundred mile radius didn't even get off the couch and try?!?! Lots!!

I see that you're a new runner, too ... do you run with any of the local running groups? I have found the group runs to be educational and motivating ... besides, it's especially nice to find someone to pace with! There are TONS of runs at a variety of paces in the area!!

Are you following a particular Half Mary program for the Feb race? I'm hoping that I'm running a 5mile leg of the marathon relay at that event ... I'll know very soon. I figure that'll get my base run up to 5mi by the end of January ... so I'm aiming for an early season 10k ... and if I can stomach that one ... on to the dreaded Half Mary in the fall.

Oh yeah ... I'll do some triathlons in there too!

Grats on your finish Keith!  I have a co-worker who ran that race this weekend.  He was telling me that its a tough course - the first half is mostly heading uphill and the last few were a gradual downhill.

Congrats again!
