Pre-race routine:

Gathered with family and tried to meet up with friends.
Event warmup:

Ran/walked the 5k race with our 7 year old daughter. Unfortunately didn't stretch, too busy trying to find friends and family and meet up with someone to take our 7 year old before my husband and I headed to the 10k start. We missed the gun and I started my watch as we crossed the starting line (or at least what we thought was the starting line), then someone told us it was further down so my time is definitely not exact but close.

Comments:

I felt pretty good about my run, but had a hard time mentally at the start since we had missed the gun. I was really disappointed not to start with my friends, especially after all the trouble I had gone to to get everyone to meet up together. Pushed on and eventually got over it. I passed two friends and then met up with a third for the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the start on time and train more on hills.
Post race
Warm down:

Met up with friends and family and chatted about everyone's performance. Did not stretch, I was too frazzled by all the people we were trying to keep together and thinking about 30 people coming to my house later that day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mental issues with missing the start and too many hills.

Event comments:

I would like to make the Turkey Trot an annual event. This is the first time I had done it and I think a run before all that eating is a great idea.

Way to keep going after the frustration of having missed the gun and being worried about the 30 guests you were having over later that day. Sorry you didn't get to run with your friends, but that's awesome you were able to do the 5K race with your daughter beforehand.

Great job. Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

Large races are pretty tough to get right.  When you have people you are attempting to meet with, it makes it that much harder.

Good job keeping your time down and getting through it.

Great job on the run. Don't feel bad about missing the gun. I too was some distance away when they started. Nothing like having to chace the race down. I was bummed with my "gun time" as well. You did excellent.
