Comments:

Went out to do this race as a learning race. I didn't practice with the race nutrition before hand. Didn't really do any training in preparation for this race. And in the three weeks prior, I have only ran twice. My goal was to just finish mostly injury free, so that I can attempt another Marathon the following Saturday.

Went out and did a nice easy 11 min mile pace. Ran for the first two hours non-stop. After the first hour of running, I started drinking Gatoraid. I also supplemented with one shot of Hammer Gel per hour. I felt pretty good all the way up to about mile 18, then I had to really push mentally to stay in the game. Did alot of run walk from their to mile 25. At mile 24 ish I started to notice I was gettin stomach cramps every time I started running again. When I hit mile 25, I could no longer run as the stomach pain was too much. So, I just decided to walk the remainder as I was not sure of what was causing the pain. In hind site, I was consuming about 400+ calories per hour and I normally consume around 250 at that pace and outside temperature. I am sure the stomach pain was a result of the stomach distress from too many calories. I have experienced stomach distress in training but it was not nearly as sharp of pain as this was today.

But I still walked away with the finisher's medal injury free, and that was the only real goal of the day.

Event comments:

For the size of the race, it was more than what I expected. It had a very nice finisher's medal.

Sorry to hear about the GI issues, Rob.  At least you've already figured out what the problem was and stayed injury-free.  Hope we see you at White Rock!

Well, we all have good days and bad days.  Good races and bad races.  It's not a matter of 'if' as much as 'when'.  Very proud of you for sticking with the race and pushing through.  It's good to treat today as a learning experience as it is sure to help you out in the future during a race of much more significance than this one.

I had a lot of fun being a one-woman cheering squad and pit crew.  I always have a great day when I am with my Iron-mate.

But seriously... next time you have GOT to beat that little Thai lady.

Sounds like a great well organized and totally supported training run (That also happened to be a Marathon)

Not too many folks attempt to run one of these things as a training run, and it appears that you have successfully pulled off at least the first part.

I hope you get the GI issues worked out. (I think your calorie idea sounds reasonable)

Good luck with your goal race
