Comments: They had a digital pace clock for us to see during the swim. Very nice. They also had people counting laps and getting our splits. My first 500 yards was about 8:17 according to the clock. The second 500 I started to get pretty tired and had to breathe more often. Before the race I had a goal time of 17:00 I wanted to do (wasn't sure I could do it) and at the half I thought it was doable. By 750-800 yards I felt like lead and didn't think I could do it, but at 900 yards it looked like if I really push myself I could make it. WAHOO! I got out in under 17:00!! What would you do differently?: Maybe start off a little slower. Transition 2
Comments: Debated wearing socks. Decided not to. Dried feet quickly on my towel, but when I bent over to get the shoes more water dripped on them so I still had to try to get the wet feet into the shoes. Just a bit of trouble. What would you do differently?: Still trying to figure that out. Run
Comments: This was a tiny race (only 15 competitors...yup, that's male AND female!) put on by the aquatic center. I'm not at all sure how accurate the distance was. I had really exerted myself in the swim and I was SOOOOO out of breath on the start of the run. It took ~1/2 mile or more into the run before I felt normal again. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Once I got into it, I was able to pick off about 3-4 guys and one woman. Post race
Warm down: Not much really. Just a little walking around and saw Bob finish. Then it was time to hit the showers and bolt to get the 11-year-old to his first hockey game. What limited your ability to perform faster: End of the season laziness. My last race of the tri season was two weeks ago and my swim coach guilted me into doing this race just this week. My mind is REALLY not focused on racing right now, and I've only run one time since that last race so this one was just for fun. Event comments: I didn't even know it until Bob and I were getting into the car to go to our son's hockey game, but the RD ran after me with an award. I was 2nd overall female! (Let's not mention that 1st overall was an 11-year-old girl who swims like a fish and did her 1000 yd swim in ~11:00!...who can compete with that?!?) Last updated: 2006-12-01 12:00 AM

Got some coffee before leaving the house. Bob and I went over to the pool to get our packets.
Did some stretching before leaving the house, at the race site did some jogging and then more stretching. Warmed up in the pool 200 yds.
