Ok, folks, I said I'd come up with some ideas, and I think I found something perfect. Hopefully lots of BTers from SE WI and NE IL will be able to participate.

Every year, Lake Geneva is the place to go for the National Snow Sculpting Contest. This year is no exception. This year, however, they have decided to add a race to the festivities. You have your choice of a 1 mile, 5k or 10k walk/run. Here is the link with more information

http://www.lakegenevasports.com/Winterfest/winterfest.htm

Here's my thoughts...wouldn't it be a ton of fun for a bunch of us to do the race (whatever distance you so desire) then have a fabulous lunch afterward? It would be great for those with kiddos, because they make a day of it, with the race, lunch, and then wandering around looking at the sculptures.

This is on Saturday, February 3rd. The races start at 10:15 am. Lake Geneva will be packed, no doubt, but how much fun could it be?

For lunch, firstnet911 recommended Popeyes (no, not the chicken place), which would be relatively near by. Here is their link

http://www.popeyesonlakegeneva.com

Depending on how soon I find out how many are interested, I can see what I could set up as far as reservations (the earlier, the better. Like I said, this will be a busy day in Lake Geneva).

So, post here or pm me if you are interested, and how many you think will be in your entourage.

I'll be posting this on the IL board as well. Thanks!

Holy Crap, I never check these boards.  I would have loved to have been there the 15th.  I'll check the social calendar for 2/3, but that sounds cool to me.

Ok, people...start leaving actual numbers of people you plan on bringing (yourself included) so I can figure out what kind of reservation I need to make...

EDIT-Popeye's doesn't actually take reservations, but for groups of 8 or more, they do priority seating, so I need to know how many will be coming so we can be put on the list.  They won't seat us until everyone is there, so if 1 pm isn't workable, let me know.  Keep in mind the snow sculpture competition is veiwable from the front window of the restaurant.

If it matters to anyone, I'm gonna be there doing the 10K, but will have to boogie soon afterward to get to my son's basketball game at 2.  So, NO on the BT gathering but YES, I'll be there.

What about a meeting place? I've never met anyone from BT in person so I wouldn't recognize anyone. Since ALL races start at 10:15, can we pick a spot to meet at say, 9:45?

Comments/suggestions????

The kids and I are not going to make it. Son has a chess tournament.

Hmmm.....what sounds like more fun, watching 8 year olds play chess for 8 hours or doing a run and hanging with the BT crew???

Sounds like I will be building some parenting Karma that day, but the kids come first.

Thinking about this . . .

Have to double check with the better half - she runs the calendar. I am very interested but need to double check. Possibly just the run and have to fly!

I checked out the course today. VERY HILLY!!! It would be really nasty if it was at the end of a swim and bike!

BTW, I'm flying solo on Saturday. My wife got a better offer (Badger basketball game with my sister, shopping too.) Now I'm looking for a babysitter.

As of today, I'm still in. I'll be honest...I've never run when the temp has been 10 or less.

Did I mention that the course is VERY hilly?

Maggyruth, any thoughts? Is lunch still on?

I'm personally not running the race.  However, I'm still more then willing to cheer people on (depending on how freezing it is) and meet up at Popeye's for lunch.  Alas, there are less the 8 of us slated to be there, so we can't do a reservation/priority seating, but I'm still willing to meet up at 1ish...

Morey1 is doing the race and I am on the fence.  Is there any way to bump up the lunch maybe?  I think after freezing my arse off for the duration of the race the last thing I am going to want to do is check out ice sculptures and what not.  11:30ish as a possibility?  I cant drag the wee ones in that cold, so just me if it does happen.

That's a great idea...I'll pm those interested.

This Saturday, after the race in Lake Geneva, we'll meet up at Popeyes on Wrigley at 11:30 AM.  If interested, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE pm ASAP me w/ a number of people so if we have more then 8 we can get priority seating.

***This is a bump up in time from 1 to 11:30...due to the extreme cold temps we're expecting this weekend***

Is there any chance that this race might be canceled due to the temperature? The forecast is for 6 degrees on Saturday.

I honestly have no clue as to whether or not they'll cancel the race due to weather, but as of right now, there are only 3 of us for lunch, so, I'm fine with cancelling that.  I'm going to be in that area, but won't be doing the race and I can't stand out in the cold for long without turning into a popsicle.

Why don't we just try and meet up at a race when it will actually be (semi) warm.
