Re-focus and get right back into it, you'll be fine!

Remember, it is not the one workout that makes or breaks you, it is the culmination of all of them throughout the training cycle.

Layer, layer, layer...

Use something that is tight and wicks away from the body.  Use another wicking heavier fabric and then I use a cotton layer to absorb sweat.

Make sure your feet, hands, face and head are warm.  I would use a warm weather headband over a hat... unless you have a hat that wicks also.

I would do an out and back in case you get cold.  It sucks being really far away and having no choice to keep going if you are cold.  But I am a wuss.

Also, if the weather is bad I wouldn't go on the road because it isn't worth it.

I had to bag my first run in about a year this morning because of the ice on the roads.  Bummer .......

But I usually run in all conditions.  My biggest problem is my hands, and with the snow board type mittens I jsut got I no longer have any issues.  Layering is the key as she said.

I agree that mittens are way better than gloves.

I haven't tried snow board mittens though.  Those sound good.

They are just what I found at Dick's when I went shopping for mittens.  They work very well, and my fingers are usually sweating unless it is in the single digits out.

Sorry to completely invade this group.  I don't know much, but I do know Cold Weather Running.  After much trial and error, I have found the two products linked below to be the IDEAL combination for the hands at any temps.  The gloves are EXTREMELY comfortable and thin, yet warm.  Around 25 or so, I put the mittens, which are little more than a shell, over the gloves.  I've been down to -10 with that combination for over an hour, and never had cold hands.

NOTE:  I did not buy from this retailer, but those prices are excellent.

I read recently that triathletes go through 18 plus eggs a week. In what way do you guys prepare eggs? Are they not that bad for you?

I like green eggs and ham.

I like them in a boat, I like them wearing a coat.

I like them in a house, I like them with a mouse.

I like them walking the dog, I like them with a glass of grog.

I do like green eggs and ham!

I personally don't eat eggs by themselves much other than maybe an omellette on the weekend with the family.  Other than that it is just what is mixed in with normal food (mayo, cake, ice cream, etc.).

Never really been a big egg guy myself ......... :shrugs:

I'm a big egg guy...I usually scramble about 6 whites with mexican cheese and salsa. Other days I boil them. On the weekends I may throw in some yolks again with cheese, tomotoes, salsa, green peppers and roll them up in a flour tortilla.

Im looking to invest in some gear any suggestions?
Swim Fins (short ones)?
Swim Gloves(fist gloves)
Hand Paddles

I think the last two are all the same, but hte fin issue is where I see the most difference.

Also, Im going to invest in a heart rate monitor for training, any suggestions?

Paddles and gloves are different.

I've seen people use dish gloves and just invert the fingers so you are forced to make a fist instead of buying something to substitute.

I'm really the wrong one to comment on those things though as I personally will not ever use swim aides as I believe they are a detriment to my learning to swim better.  And as far as HRM's go, there are so many different ones out there that all do about the same thing.  I'd suggest getting one that has at least 30 lap capability and calculates averages for each interval as well as overall.  I personally have a Timex model.

For the swim Gear Im looking to strengthen my legs and improve my kick. I heard the fins can help with that. Im not going to train with them exclusively, but simply to add variety

I haven't really done much with swimming tools other than with a kick board so I can't help you with that.

As far as HRM I would set my budget before going and looking.  There are a lot of really cool gizmos out there, and I am a big sucker.  I would also think about what you want it to do before you go and look or else you may buy the latest greatest that you don't need.

Going good for me...

My first tri is coming up March 24... 300m swim, 10mile bike, 5k.  Good starter one for me.

I finally got my butt in the pool, and hey, I like to swim!  I have also been running some longer distances (for me) and doing alright at it.  So 2007 is definitely a better year for work outs for me than 2006.

I am in the midst of starting up a new business so exercising has taken a back seat of late.  I hope to get back on track at least running this week.  I am registered for a sprint on the 31st but I don't think I will do it.  I will volunteer instead of racing.

Good luck with the new business!

And that's a great way to stay involved.  Volunteers are one of the most important things to keep the racing alive.

Hi, I've been traveling for business lately and haven't been on here for some time. My training is going well. I've been consistant and seen results which is great. I think I'm in the best shape I have ever been in. I need to get on the bike more. I've been doing the spin classes though.

Just returned from visiting with family in MA. The mix of family time/snow/work/personal laziness kept me from getting in any workouts. May 20th, I'm registered for an Oly, so the training will pick up in these next 8 weeks!
