Gator free (AFAIK) -

I did this last year without a wetsuit, and I'm always slow. It was fine, and you won't be the only one bare, shivering or even taking a breast/back/doggie break if you feel like one. There's a covered picnic area right next to the start, where you can wait in warmups if it's chilly that morning (or pouring like it was the year before last).

Note to all, there is some construction on 20 right around the exit, so add a few minutes for time, and make sure you stay in the right (local traffic) lane when it splits - you'll know it when you see it.

Just took a look at the 10-day weather forecast for Carrollton, GA and looks like we're going to see some temps in the 80's next week.  Granted, it's a 10-day "look," but potentially bodes well for the water temp on race day.

Maybe the water will warm up a bit.  That'd be a good thing for your first race!

so, anyone have an idea of what the water temps might be on Saturday?  I practiced my first OWS on Saturday at Mary Alice Park.  That water was cold.  I'm glad I went, it turned out to be more of a mental exercise trying to acclimate and actually swim in the cold water.

By the way, if any of you are on these boards, thanks for letting me swim with you.

water was 60 this past weekend at lanier-I expect at least high 60's at tanner. It is a much smaller body of water and we are expecting warm temps all week.

what he said...  having done MAP this past Saturday and the week prior, it's amazing what 4-8 degrees can do.  Two weeks ago, water at MAP was in the 50's; this week, the water was still cold but very tolerable and I was able to focus efforts on "swimming" vs "surviving."  Looking forward to the swim (did I just type this?) at Tanner....

Anyone going up Friday afternoon/evening? I just got a cheapo hotel room (rather than waking up at 4 am to drive Frown) and am planning to check out the layout at the park on Friday.

Anyone want to do an easy ride on the bike course Friday around 6 pm from the transition area?

I'll be heading into town on Friday night as well but won't be there until much later.  I am hoping to get over to the park and take a look, get an idea of what I'm in for.

I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow BTers.

Just as a reminder for those of you heading over to John Tanner this weekend (or doing any of the Tri the Parks races) - make sure that you have the $3 parking fee in order to enter the park for the race on Saturday.

I don't carry much cash on me and completely forgot about it last year - luckily I had friends that bailed me out.

Good luck to all of you!  I can't wait to see the results and hear about the race!

I'll be over on Friday afternoon. I might even do a short swim just to see what cold water feels like again.

Also, has anyone gotten the email on packet pick up times and the race schedule? The web site says it will go out "within the week" but has said that for a while.

so, is anyone staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Carrollton that wouldn't mind carpooling in the morning?  I'll be staying in a room with my wife and toddler son.  The longer he can sleep and the longer my wife can wait before she brings him to the park the better behaved he'll be during the race and the easier time my wife will have.

logistically, with my bike, it may be difficult so don't worry about if it's not going to work out.

Timm, I just got my email late this afternoon.
