When I first got sized/fitted for my pair of shoes in a running store they looked at my work shoes and could see how I walked.  They then asked me to try a pair of shoes that matched somewhat that wear trend.  For me it was the outside back of the shoe that wore down differently than the rest, so I am heel down and toes out a bit when I walk.

This has been the case when I run as well.  But I have worked on having a straighter gait when running.  Toeing out is supposedly a weak hip flexor or butt muscle thing.  I've got buns of steel , so it must have been a hip flexor problem for me.

Your mowing shoes are wearing in a walking pattern, while your running shoes are wearing according to your running gait. There's a difference.

In mine, I wear the outside of the shoe along the midfoot, and in front of the second toe (toe-off), with compression under the ball. The heels, however, look new.

But the shoes I walk in have wear on the outside of the heel and again at the second toe.

Well, I am a mild supinator so my shoes wear all along the outside edge of the shoes. (Although not nearly as much as they once did) I am also a forefoot striker so the wear is more up front.

The real wear for me is not on the sole, but in the mid-sole that counts.

I use a sharpie and write the date on the heel so that I can tell one pair from another and rotate a few pairs at a time. I am very careful about logging mileage on my shoes and at 350, if they have not already gone flat, they get a big red X on the heel. (They are done)

I also avoid "Cushioned" or "Neutral+" Shoes as the material they are made from goes flat much quicker. (Saucony Triumph, NB 1060s, ASICS Gel Nimbus) Flat shoes are a very common cause of running injuries. (And I have been bitten a few times)

I seem to average about 30 workouts to each pair of shoes. Luckily I run in shoes that are a bit less expensive and seem to be pretty durable

The heel wears a little down the outside egde (probably from walking).  The forefoot wears the most and the wear pattern is smack dab down the middle.  I think it is normal to pronate just a little, right?  I guess I don't pronate very much at all.

Not sure.

The idiot at the New Balance Store promised me 1,000 Miles on my NB1060s which blew out at less than 200 miles. (The Gel inside the sole started to leak out after the little window in the side blew out on a 20 mile LR)

He actually said he would replace them if they blew out early. Needless to say, no one was willing to back him up when I brought them back 2 weeks later

Most of my Marathoner friends seem to think that 350 is about right for Non-Elite Runners. (Not-Whippit Thin with perfect bio-mechanics that barely touch the ground)

Rotating shoes has had the biggest impact on shoe life for me. I would bet that some of my shoes could last longer, but I am not willing to risk it.

I figure it costs me .22 - .25 cents per mile. An extra few miles may save me a few bucks and risk 6 weeks of downtime and a DNF at a race. (Not worth it for me)

I currently run in "Saucony Trigon Ride" for training, and "Brooks Burn" for Racing. Both are Neutral Shoes that feel really comfortable.

I am still a Supinator. (Or Under-Pronator as they seem to call it at the LRS where I was fitted for shoes)

I did have my running form checked a bit ago. (They Video Taped me on the Running Track running on fresh legs, and after a hard V02Max Workout)

They gave me some tips on my running form but mostly minor tweaks.

I guess as my weekly mileage increased and my running economy improved, it became less of a problem. I also bet that getting fitted for correct shoes made a big difference.

Oh, I do post on RWOL and also on RT.
