Pre-race routine:

Bagel with peanut butter and jelly- Gatorade. My legs were really tired yesterday- they felt a little better today- but kept telling myself- just a training run. Had some of a Cliff bar about 15 minutes before race.
Event warmup:

Maybe should have warmed up and stretched- as my legs felt tight at mile 2 already.
Run
  • 1h 46m 50s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Really not feeling it. I dont think I had a comfortable relaxed stride throughout the whole fricken race ( I mean run:)) My friend/ training buddy Bob ran with me the whole time- thanbk goodness because I think I would have slacked a lot. I got a side ache at proably mile 5- didnt get worse or better for the whole race- ugh- this maybe slowed me down some? After the turn around we had some wind- so I just ran behind Bob and he blocked wind for me- sweet! Grabbed water at the last two aid stations- maybe should have done a gu? Was damn glad to see the last three miles sign. I tried to pick it up a little at the end even though my legs were pretty much done.
Really was happy with this time for today- I didnt feel like I could even break 2 hours with how felt. WOuld have liked to break hit sub 8 min miles- but now I KNOW I can:)
What would you do differently?:

I dont know that I could do anything deifferent- I guessif I really wanted to have a stellar time- I could taper.

Warm down:

Great job for a "training run".  Congrats on sticking with it even though you weren't rested for it.  It will pay off later in the season.

Holy crap, nice run for feeling like azz the whole time!!  I saw a woman that looked somewhat like your avatar in the gym, but before I could set my shat down and walk over, that person was lost in the sea of peeps.  Sorry we missed you.  I was a hurtin' donkey at the 3-mile sign myself.

Nice run Tammy!  Good thinking drafting someone on the return, I really should have done more of that as that wind was significant!  Hope to actually meet you at the next one.

Way to go Tam!  Keep training hard.  Word to the wiser.....make sure you warm up and stretch prerace, or you'll end up like me sitting for 3 months!  We aren't exactly spring chickens any more!
