Okay, what are the rules for calling yourself a Triathlete? I did my first triathlon with a team. Does that count? I'm a swimmer so I'm getting ready to add running and biking into my schedule so I can do my first one (by myself) next spring. I will take any advice I can get on how to add running and biking into my exercise routine. Of course now they have drained the pool that I train in for a couple of weeks to make repairs so I'm on hold for awhile with swimming. How many times a day does everyone workout? How many days do you run? swim? bike? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You are indeed an athlete because you helped your team DO a triathlon. We are all athletes above all else!

They won't show you the secret handshake unless you do whole thing.  But they will let you post here if you're a wannabe, a neverwas (moi), or an fullblowntriathlete.

Debbie,

Labels, labels, what would they mean if we didn't earn them! That said you are an athlete for a tri team (team of three). But all are welcomed. You can call yourself a tri gonna be! Also, check out the couch to sprint programs in running. I did that, as I was a swimmer first and never a biker and a runner was just a word in a dictionaary to me. The running program helped me to gradually work up to running and I have been injury free. Good luck and keep us informed on your training. Ovetta.

That's a pretty high road to take, Ovetta, considering you've got your own, personal stripper! ;-)

Well, I'm going to disagree just a little because I think if you participate in a leg of a triathlon, you are a triathlete. However, before my first tri I always referred to myself as someone who was in training for a tri. I just made sure to bring it up at the gas station, dry cleaners, and of course, every cashier I ran across.

Okay, while a triathlete technically connotes somebody who has done all three legs, who cares? We have somebody who has recently partaken of the purple kool aid.

I'd think a "team triathlete" might be more appropriate as opposed to a triathlete. Splitting hairs, but you can explain what you do.

When I tell people I am a triathlete, they always ask what events - because they are sure it has something to do with hot wings and beer (and of course it does, but that's after I've swam, biked and ran).

Thanks guys. I can honestly say that even though I've participated in a "Team Triathlon" I don't really consider myself an official Triathlete....and I won't until I finish one all by myself. I was just curious to see what people would say. Thanks for your support and wish me luck on my tri-training.
