7:30 - 09:00 am man that sucks. what if you spent all your money getting to IMAZ and win your A/G only to lose it because you do not have the money.

Well, they want to know weather or not you are going or not. There may be other athletes who will write the check in the roll down. Last thing NA Sports would want is a bunch of qualifiers at the last min. bailing on them. IM is a commitment, so is signing up for one it appears!

I'm in! And I simply can't believe it. In the craziness that I call life, I actually completely forgot about it until I received my e-mail today. I've now been the site about 20 times and still can't believe that I am really seeing my name up there.

The sad thing is that one of my friends is getting married that day and I'm supposed to be in the wedding. I've already made my decision, but I'm not looking forward to making that phone call. Fortunately she has a ton of friends and I think I'm easily replaceable in the wedding -- but I'm still going to look like a jerk -- only those who are obsessed by this sport can really understand what a "once in a life-time opportunity" this is for a middle of the pack athlete like myself.

I've done IM Wisconsin twice, but never actually dreamed I'd be going to Kona. Still can't believe it!

Trying to wipe that stupid grin off my face,

Melissa

If she wants you in the wedding party that bad, she can always reschedule her wedding.  You'll probably never get another chance to go to Kona.

That's how I feel about the wedding. She has 9 bridesmaids -- and she's not really a close friend. She only asked me because I set her up with her finance. I'd love to be at the wedding -- I'm really excited for both of them -- but a chance to race Kona just don't come knocking on your door every year.

I guess I'm selfish and rather obsessed about the sport. But then again, most of us are. That's why we do crazy things like IMs in the first place.

Congrats Josh and southwestmba! Now we can have a little BT gathering in Kona . They made us show up Monday morning following IMAZ with checkbook in hand to secure our qualifying slots! You had from 7:30-9:00am to claim it or it wen to the roll down. We did recieve a cool Qualifying Certificate and interestingly, when I registered with Active.com, we were instructed to register as a Catagory 1 athlete. Lottery winners register as Catagory 2. I wasn't aware there was any distinction between AG qualifiers and lottery winner, was I incorrect?

I finally got the letter today and it does have us lottery winners register as Catagory 2. I assume that would be since we didn't qualify we would not be eligible for any awards (not that I would have a snowballs chance on the lava fields . On the other hand you earned your trip to the world championship and are eligible. That would be the difference as far as I can tell. They do something similar for the USAT Halfmax (HIM) Championships. Anyone can enter but only the qualifiers are eligible for awards.

Anyway you cut it I am officially registered and my spot is validated and I'm so stoked. I can only imagine how you feel. We definitely need to get the BT contingent together in Kona (of course I have to figure out a few minor logistical issues first, how to ship my bike, where to stay, how to pay for it, how long to take the kids out of school).

So what did she say when you asked her to move her wedding date?

You did ask, right? I mean, it's Kona. C'mon.

(Notice the conspicuous absence of the sarcasm font and winky faces).

A word of advice, BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATIONS NOW!! When I called last week, Kona was already 95% booked from last year. I found a condo in Kailua 6 miles up Alii Drive from the start, on the ocean for $1350 for 5 nights. It's a 2 bedroom with a loft. I also rented a mini van. Rental cars also go fast from what I have heard. If you are going to go, don't wait on making the plans, believe me.

Where did you call to make reservations? I can't seem to find a list of hotels, etc. anywhere.
