Actually the original jab at Pelosi was directed at her negotiations with the Syrains against the State Department's advise.

Hmmm...I could see the connection to the spending bill, but I'm not following you in that case. Why is diplomacy demoralizing? Unless the troops are achin' to fight another needless battle, I guess.

Rogillio - 2007-04-18 9:12 AM "Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged." Abraham Lincoln

Isn't it the President who refuses to sign the spending bill, thereby taking bullets out of the guns of our boys?

Hey, we have 435 representative and 100 senators….think of all the countries they can go to! Each of them can espouse their own personal views and make non-bindings agreements! She should be tied for treason.

What non-binding agreements? And since when is it treasonous to express your views?

Eggzactly! What non-binding agreements did she make?!

Her actions were in direct violation of the Logan Act which states, "Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to , or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both." directly or indirectly commences or , or to shall be

Her trip to Damascus was a direct violation of this act and as such she is guilty of a felony and adding to this her overtures toward Iran, Pelosi is walking the fine line of treason as her actions can be considered, "aid and comfort."

and what about the republican congressman who attended that same meeting? he said that pelosi reinforced the adminstration's policies regarding syria. should he be tried for treason?

and how about the three republican congressmen who had traveled to meet with syrian leaders only a week before? should they be tried for treason?

and how about newt gingrich when he was speaker of the house during the clinton presidency? he traveled to israel and publicly denounced the white house's middle east policies. were you just as outraged then? were you calling for him to be tried for treason?

pelosi was briefed by state department officials before her meeting, and they were present during the meetings. if she had done anything truly wrong, you can bet there would have been official statements from the state department saying so.

Granted, she would never be prosecuted.  But I agree with this (from the cite you referenced):

"The constitution grants the power to conduct foreign affairs (foreign policy) to the executive branch not the legislative branch. A fact finding mission is to investigate or uncover facts; it does not involve carring messages, makeing policy statements, or entering into discussions or negotiations without the permission or authority of the executive branch. What about the apparent fact (yeah I know) that she wasn't conducting US business, but moderating Syrian/Israeli issues? And also, why not call out the republicans doing the same thing?

So what if I go visit the president of Syria and say I want to help improve his opinion of AMericans.   Would that be treason?   What is treasonous about talking to someone of another country unless you are giving imformation that would harm the safety of the country or its people?

No, probably hard to get a treason conviction....but easy enough to get conviction on violation of the Logan Act - which is a felony.

Lincoln on, ostensibly, the importance of dialogue over force:

"Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?"

Lincoln was a sage. My favorite POTUS.
