Subject: --- I had been running and climbing for a few years and one day I was foolishly bouldering without a crash pad and landed right on my ankle. I won't get into the gorey details but it was definitely sprained. The doctor advised I lay off running for the next 6 months and start biking and/or swimming instead. Running and climbing had been my escape from working and going to school full time; without both I was bound to go insane. So I got a bike and swimsuit as soon as possible. A few months passed by and I got a position student teaching for an adventure sports class at DePaul University in Chicago. Both of the women I taught with were doing a triathlon that summer and encouraged me to do one as well when I got better. To shorten this story...I signed up for one and have been an addict ever since!
Why am I addicted? I love to push myself. Also triathlon is a lifestyle choice; I enjoy being healthy and it's gives me three more reasons to be so. Training also gives me a great excuse to get out and enjoy Lake Michigan as much as possible.
Goals? I don't want triathloning to be something I did in college. I will do everything in my power to run triathlons throughout the entirety of my life. |
