Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

50 yd swim warm up
Swim
  • 09m 31s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Exactly the same swim time as last year. I think Dave Knack did a nice job of pulling me through. He did lose me at about the 450 yd mark.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I am quite happy with the swim performance.
Transition 1
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Decent transition. Almost forgot that the helmet goes on first.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 32m 37s
  • 13 miles
  • 23.91 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really strong on the bike. The wind wasn't as bad as it was earlier in the day. The rain felt like little icicles and really stung the skin.

This was dang near 2:00 better than last year's time. I hope the improvement continues.

Actual bike distance was about 12.35 and actual bike speed would have been 22.7.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Things were just wet! I lost my bike when I was entering the transition area and had to go back and pick it up. My running shoes were soaked
What would you do differently?:

Cover my shoes.
Run
  • 20m 2s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I, as did many I talked to, had a side stitch that I could not get rid of. I am sure that this affected my time as I notice that my AHR was a bit lower than normal.

I did almost a minute worse on the run than last year.

Actual run distance was close to 2.8 which gives me a 7:09 pace.
What would you do differently?:

This is my area to work on!
Post race
Warm down:

There was no warm down. We were downright cold! The shower helped, but it took a good hour to warm up

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My side stitch on the run really slowed me down. Had I run as well as last year, I might have placed 6th overall... but I didn't.

Event comments:

I really like this race and look forward to it every year

Great race.  Your transitions impress me; I should have been standing out there in the rain watching you as you flew through them!

Overall fantastic race! Especially considering the cold, wet, ickiness of the weather.
