Swim
Comments: Started in the last wave towards the back. It was self seeded based on ability so I decided the last wave would be best. The wind had picked up since the start of the first 2 waves so the water was getting a little choppy. Started out freestyle but had to switch between breast and free to get through. Had to grab a kayak 3 times for a short rest in the 1st 1/2 of the swim but then was able to make it the rest fo the way on my own. What would you do differently?: Nothing I survived the swim that's all that matters :) Transition 1
Comments: took my time walking from swim exit to T1. wetsuit came off easy. Putting bodyglide on outside of ankles really helped. Decided to go sockless on the bike and it worked out well. Walked bike to mount line. What would you do differently?: Use a bigger towel for my transition area Bike
Comments: Since I started in the last wave I got stuck behind a lot of people. Passed quite a few but had problems passing some due to all the traffic. Felt strong all the way through the bike and probably could have pushed a little harder. What would you do differently?: get faster on the swim so i don't get stuck behind so many people. Get a little more aggresive passing. Get more comfortable riding aero on the downhills Transition 2
Comments: Legs felt fine coming off the bike. Someone racked their bike in my spot so I had to squeeze in a tight spot. shoes off, helmet off, socks, shoes, hat and number belt on and off I went. What would you do differently?: learn to take bike shoes off coming in to transition. Run
Comments: Decided to run without the Garmin or heart rate moniter so I had no idea how fast I was going. Legs didn't feel like jello so I started off at what felt like a good pace. The hills and headwind going out really sucked but I was still able to pass quite a few people. Walked a couple of the uphills and the aid stations. took 1 water at each and poured water over my head at each to keep cool. this seemed to work well. With the wind at my back at the turn around I picked up the pace and ran the rest of the way except the last aid station at mile 3. with about 1/2 mile to go and a small group of 4 - 5 ahead of me I decided to pick up the pace a little more and picked all them off What would you do differently?: more hill training Post race
Warm down: grabed some water met up with Joey and talked a bit. Then ran into Guncollector a chatted a little. What limited your ability to perform faster: my weight open water swim fears (conquered now) :) Last updated: 2007-01-13 12:00 AM

Got out of bed at 4:30 ate a bannana got dressed loaded up the car and headed out.
Ran around trying to find Joey in transition with all my nutrition and my car keys to get my sun screen out of my car. Finally found him eating breakfast in the diner on site. Ran into Guncollector as I headed back to my car. Put on wetsuit and jumped in water for a good 10 - 15 minutes to get aclimated.
