Swim
Comments: They said "5 minutes" so I backed out of the water for a bit so not to freeze and then not even 2 mins later they shot the gun, so I was a bit unprepared. I swam off course a bit in a few parts (3 times in 3 parts I think) so I swam farther than I wanted but I avoided a lot of people. What would you do differently?: I need to start swimming more to improve my times. I know I'm slow, but I just don't like it! Transition 1
Comments: Ran to transition and saw hardly any bikes there! Changed as quick as I could, tried to put long sleeves on but was sticking to much, so put my shoes/helmet on, and ran to the mounting line. Someone in T1 I lost my 2 Gels, I forgot my tape so I couldn't have them on my bike so I decided to put them in my pockets. Oh well, lesson for next time. What would you do differently?: Remember tape so I don't lose my gels. And not freak out when I don't see very many bikes left! Bike
Comments: My computer didn't work for the first half of the course so I could only go by perceived effort and guess at my cadence. Once it started working I was consistently between 35 and 40km/hr - much better! Nobody passed me on the course - always a confidence booster! Feet were frozen from the swim the whole ride, couldn't feel them at all. Didn't have gels, but my Infinit seemed to do the job pretty well. What would you do differently?: Not much I don't think. I thought my comp. was working before the race, maybe I should check better next time. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was good, quick mounting of the bike, shoes off/on and grab my race belt. What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe learn to get out of my shoes on the bike? Run
Comments: I ran really slow for myself. I passed a bunch of people and nobody passed me, but I know I can run faster than that. I started getting feeling back in my feet, but that ment running on the "pins and needles" feeling - not very fun. That and the fact that my ankles were stiff from the cold water too were big factors in my run performance. What would you do differently?: Need to practice running off the bike more, was kind of slacking in that the last few weeks. Post race
Warm down: Lots of stretching because I knew with the colder weather, I would get stiff and maybe cramp up. Then, had some pizza and watermelon! What limited your ability to perform faster: The cold water and the fact that I'm still new to the sport so I'm still learning how to improve different areas. Event comments: I haven't done a lot of races, but this was a great course, very well organized and I had a lot of fun at it. Last updated: 2007-04-17 12:00 AM

Got to the event about 1.5hrs before it started, got my package and got my bike and transition area ready. Also checked out the swim course and the transition maps so I knew what I was doing. Nothing too exciting here.
Did a short bike and a quick run. Didn't get into the water since it was 11 degrees celcius (52 degrees F)! But was feeling pretty good.
