hrthomson - 2008-03-20 11:53 AM And to add something fun - Bib numbers are up on NA Sports!

Hey everyone, post your bib numbers so at the worst we can find each other while setting up transition, etc.

enginerd (Donato) - lucky number 744

Here is the thread that I started that we can use to track bib numbers and athletes on race day. (Maybe the moderators will pin the thread so that it stays on top)

Am I missing something? How come I can't see a link to your thread?

Okay, so, pant pant puff puff panic panic ...

I have arm and knee warmers and they fit. Seriously, I should wear them UNDER the wetsuit? I'm gonna try this out Sat/Sun. The arms are Lycra and the knees are lycra/fleece lined (but quick-dry).

Should I wear a squid lid or double swim cap? (Again, I should probably try this out)

I am in full taper tantrum and all these weird kinks are trying to work themselves out of my body and I am convinced the only way to explain all these odd symptoms and pains is that I have a brain tumor. (It's always like this during taper).

Okay, on the bike. Half gloves or full?

I feel so much better knowing you guys will be there.

I like the term "taper tantrum". I think that describes my condition exactly. I am also having phantom pains - like my knee hurts while just standing - yikes!

I did a test ocean swim with my wetsuit and the clothes I thought I was going to wear under them. I was so chaffed after the swim!! Don't forget Body Glide!!

Someone also suggested swimming with arm warmers but I don't think that will work for me. I decided I will wear tri shorts and sports bra under the wetsuit only. Then add warm dry layers after the swim. I will bring arm (and maybe leg) warmers as well as a windbreaker on the bike. And I only have half gloves so my fingers will have to suck it up on the downhills.

I think I will just double up on the swim caps and forget about anything new for race day.

Thanks to who suggested the junky shoes for the boat docks - I will add that to my list!

If the weather on race day is anything like it was today you will definitely be fine with regular bike gloves, no need for full finger. If I had done the race today I might have even gone without arm or knee warmers. Always good to be prepared though, mornings can always get a little chili.

Be FORWARNED, this is only a 10 day forcast, and should be taken lightly, but the pattern looks likely for the rest of the week starting tomorow. So I checked the weather.com and also surline.com

Looking at either Sunny with 68'F / 47'F and if Sunday's hit early, it will be Mostly Cloudy with 65'F / 45'F. Ouch. Let's get mentally ready, and just have fun.

Surf forecast from surline shows that currently from the Oceanside Noth Jetty, it should be between 55 to 58'F. So be prepared for some cold water on the face.

Now that we are mentally prepared, let's go party and have fun with this race. Bring cooler weather gear, except for those lucky one from Michigan and upper northern states, while 60's will be hot. Lucky people.

Haha I played golf in 40 degree weather yesterday wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Oh and the wind was blowing like 20mph. It was a little cold but not bad. And i'm South (Oklahoma)!

I won't be able to on Thursday. I have some stuff to take care of during the day. (Probably won't be at the expo either) Am hoping to do packet pickup on Wednesday as I will be working the Nytro Booth when the expo opens.

Am hoping you guys can make it on Friday

My wife went in the hospital Friday and found out she has gall stones.  Ughhh!!  She's been in the hospital and just went in to do a procedure today to remove them but will have to be on the mend the rest of the week.  I was going to throw in the towel on the race but she wants me to go and family and friends are willing to pitch in to help. It looks like I'll be going down alone and as excited as I am for the race it's hard when your family is not there to share the experience.  I hope to meet up with you guys and we can all psyche ourslves up for this great race.  I hope to be down there in time for luch on Friday at noon.

That is so awesome that your family is kicking you in the rear to head out there. Come on with us, you are part of the family.

I went through the same thing last month. I really debated on throwing this race out when my wife miss-caried. I didn't realise it, but it really put us both through the ringer. But her and my family and friends just kept on kicking me in the rear to continue with training and go do this race. As a few friends told me. Let all that pain be left on that course, and start a fresh new start.

Sorry folks, I will not be there for lunch on Friday since we have a Challenged Athlete Foundation Luncheon where we are also getting our entry packages. See you all out there.

 Cheers.

FOOD AFTER THE RACE - That sounds awfully like an awesome idea. I know I'll be starving. No controls, and no diets either. This week is not a week to try to loose weight. Let's eat some good grubs friends.

PS. When you look for me, make sure you look for a guy that weight about 70 lbs less than last year.

Checking in late here:

Bib# 868

Racing in a Blazeman tri top (red/white/black).

I'm tall, bald, and tattooed below both knees.

Also fairly slow. Looking to get in under 6:30. It's been almost exclusively indoor training for me this winter, so we'll see.

Hope to catch up with you folks at noon on Friday. Have a hectic schedule which includes bike rental pick-up on friday, so I'm not sure yet whether I can make lunch. I'll definitely be there to say hello, though. Hope to get a quick dip in down by the pier, too, before start cruising for schwag.

Best of luck to all, and be sure to give a shout out, yo!

Well, if you classify yourself slow at 6:30, then what it the word for 7:24 which was my time last year? Would that be that I'm "snail" pace!! Good luck, and see you there. I won't be hard to spot, as I will be one of the few racing with a Challenged athlete Foundation Uniform.

Good luck all, and have  alot of  fun out there. Cheers.

What do I call 7:24?

I think the best term is "MY PEOPLE."

BTW, for those who have never read this short piece on "The Strugglers," here's some great inspiration (written by BTer and Bikesport Michigan guru Tom Demerly):

Thanks, Tom. Great writing.
