Total Time = 2h 51m 59s
Overall Rank = 482/1346
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 76/192
Pre-race routine:

Switched from cereal to oatmeal and sports drinks. Damn they sure start these things early.
Event warmup:

Biked about 12 miles, stretched, swam about 15 minutes. Wanted to jog but my running shoes were in T2 across town.
Swim
  • 36m 43s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

After making the turn to come back for the second half I never really saw the buoy. I swam to where I though it would be and got way off course. That took a few minutes to correct.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Bike
  • 1h 09m 31s
  • 24 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a lot of fun on the bike. Great to see the sights of LA. As far as the race I seemed to be in no mans land. I kept passing slower riders from the previous waves but never got to anyone riding as fast as me. Nobody passed me until the very last block when one guy passed me up. I would have like to have seen some faster riders for a bit of adrenaline rush.

My goal was a pace of 22mph. Came a little shy but I won't complain.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Strange going to a transition you never have seen before. The volunteer directed me to the right row but sent me to the wrong end. I had to double bck about 30 yards to get my stuff.
Run
  • 1h 02m 51s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Ouch. Hills are bad. But I kept running, never walked on the course. right before mile 4 it felt like something was in my shoe. I looked down and realized my previously white gym shoe was now blood red. I guessed what was in my shoe was a chunk of skin that ripped off. I must have blistered trying to run down the hills. I had to alter my already pathetic running style so the pain only made my eyes cross. I'm guessing this added about 6 minutes to my run.
Post race
Warm down:

Went to the medical tent and got my feet bandaged. My shoe looked terrible, all coverd in blood. The medic taped me up and I hobbled to get some food. By the time I was bandaged up and ate I was wiped and neglected to stretch. Wish I hit up the massage tables but ran out of time.

Event comments:

I had a lot of fun on this race. I had really good interactions with other competitors and spectators. It was a real challenge after my foot got hurt. Very proud I didn't quit.

Course: Out and back. They threw in some steep hills to mess with us. I'm pretty new to running. I have been working on distance and staying away from hill and speed work just like all the books say. These hills absolutely killed me.
