Sunny
Total Time = 6h 19m 34s
Overall Rank = 226/289
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 44/51
Pre-race routine:

ate yogurt and bagel. I could have had a better breakfast
Event warmup:

Swam for about 4 min to warm up.
Swim
  • 41m 41s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was a bit of a battle royal until the first bouy. But it was workable.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I tried to position my self well. It was difficult with the mass start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

I need to work on taking off my suit more. I had only swam with it twice before.
What would you do differently?:

More practice with my suit. and get tri bike shoes to speed up the transition.
Bike
  • 3h 13m 37s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.35 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike chain came off twice. It made me reluctant to shift gears too much to adjust for the hills. so I was not in the best gear all the time. My hip really started to hurt and gave me problems throughout the entire ride. I had a good pace for the conditions of myself and the bike but I could have made for better conditions through training.
What would you do differently?:

I would train more on my bike. And i would test the condition of the bike more before the race.
Transition 2
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Very good transition. It probalbly would have been a 45 sec transition but I sat down to stretch my hip so I would not have problems on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would not have stretched my hip to get faster. but it was need this day.
Run
  • 2h 19m 4s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I really was running soundly for the first 6-8 miles. I really started to struggle on mile 9 and continued through out the race. I think I missed the salt intake window during the run and it cost me about 10 -15 min on the run.
What would you do differently?:

I would have worked electrolyte pills in my nutririon plan better. and trained will more hills.
Post race
Warm down:

I walkd and stretched out my legs and hips.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My nutrition plan hurt me on the run. and lack of training on my own bike. I could have worked more similar terrain. it would have helped a little.

Event comments:

This was an excellent race for the cost. I could not have expected better. I would have liked a t-shirt but Chip would have had to charge more for it.

Nice work Speedy.  I lot of people were pulled from the course for hydration/nutrition/cramping issues (according to Hangloose anyway) so finishing was a big accomplishment for the first Half IM.
