That's awesome!!!  I found this additional info on the site:

I hope all is well with you after hurricane Ivan. We are working hard To have the event as planned on October 9th. The parking at the Crabtrap Restaurant in James Lee park was under 3-4 feet of sand but it is nearly cleared out today. Many of the pavilions in our race area are gone but we will try to make
do in a little rougher than usual environment.

I have just made reservations for Friday and Saturday nights.  Most places are requiring a 3 night stay, but I found one for two.  Plenty of good things to do..granted they are still there after the hurricane, ie, McGuires irish Pub, Fudpuckers, etc.  Also, for saturday after the Tri, I Don't have anything scheduled other than to watch the Tennessee vs. Georgia game!(GO Vols!!!).

Went to the LSU game last weekend.  I would have to say I would prefer to see UGA win this weekend and then UGA and UT go into the game both undefeated, but that is tough to want, becuase any UGA loss is a good one for UT.

Yeah, I'll stick around for a brewski or 4.  The wedding isn't till 4:30 and that's a lot of time to burn off the alchohol.  Are we planning anything Fri eve before the race?

Let's try to figure a time to meet at the package pickup and we can decide from there where to do the dinner thing.  I still haven't heard if the Crab Trap is open for business, but I am sure we can come up with something.  I will take a look around after I get into town on Friday.  Can't check in at the condo till 3, so I will take a nice easy stroll around to see what is open.

I am definitely in for dinner that night.  Any others??

I've been perusing a lot of the photo galleries on Ivan/Destin and it looks like the area was spared the kind of damage seen elsewhere.  Where Pensacola looks like an atom bomb went off there, Destin looks like it survived with light damage.  It mostly appears that a lot of sand washed up inland from the beaches.  Most of the buildings that are not immediately on the beach appear relatively intact.  I think their challenge is getting all the sand cleared and turning power/water back on.  Seaside, which is very close by, said they escaped with very little actual damage.

that is what i have been hearing also.  seems like most of the damage is from ft. walton back west to MS gulf coast.

To make things simple, why don't we just meet and eat at the Crab Trap?  Packet pick up takes place there that evening (see below) so it would seem to be the easiest place.  Why don't we all gather at 6:30pm?

Packet Pick-up
Friday, October 10th,From 5-7 PM at the Crab Trap
Late pick-up Race Day, October 11th 6:00-7:00 AM
(at the Crab Trap)

I'm signed up for the Crap trap as well. This will be my second race ever, it looks like it should be a lot of fun. I've heard that they've cancelled the swim a few times because the waves were too big, so I hope that it will be a calm day. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to stay for cheap near there?

Karl,

Looks like the info you got has the wrong dates.  If I am correct, the day of race is the 9th. I am in for 6:30 after packet pickup for dinner.

Chris,

I had trouble finding anything that didn't have a three night minimum.  All hotels were booked for that friday night, so I called Abbott resorts who I guess are a sponsor in this race and they had some condo's without the 3 night minimum.  I think I am paying about $85 a night.  I don't have the number, but I am sure you can do a yahoo search and get it.

Lane,

You're spot on.  I hit the link on the website for "More Information" and it took me to the page for last year's race!  I can only assume that the packet pickup will again take place at the Restaurant between 5 and 7pm on the eve before the race.  My sister put her foot down about this wedding thing, saying I had to be at the rehearsal dinner, so I won't be going to dinner with you guys.  I will be at the restaurant at 5pm, however, to pick up my race packet.

Karl

I will be there at approx the same time for packet pickup as well.  Probably will come back to meet the others somewhere for dinner that night.  Do understand about the sis....Have to say that you getting to do the tri this weekend is amazing enough!

See you Friday!
