Who's doing the race?  This one is going to be a blast.  The swim is with the current and the course is flat and fast.

Lets get together the night before and party at the Crab Trap!  Race Packet Pick-up is from 5-7pm at the restaurant, so this will be ultimately convenient.  Why don't we all meet there at 6pm for dinner?  Let me know who's coming and I'll make reservations.

By the way, I emailed the race director to be sure the race was still on after Ivan's recent visit.

Does that mean that it is on???  Or are you still waiting for confirmation?

If it is a go, then I am in!  I am looking into lodging as well.  I know you have the wedding that weekend, but if any other BTers are looking to do a condo thing for the weekend, I am sure we could get a good price on one!

My sister's wedding is at 4pm that day (which is why I'm in Destin in the first place), so I can' t get too polluted, but I'm definitely in on the Victory Beer!!!

I ain't coming unless we start using the proper terminology....Beers!  Plural...meaning more than one.

Lane, I think I said Victory Beer, which does not necessarily specify a quantity.  For example, the Victory Beer could be all the beer consumed in celebratory elation.  It could refer to a six pack of Victory Beer, a Case, or maybe even a Keg.  I'm with you, though, one "bottle" of Victory Beer is not nearly enough.

Your point is well taken.

Please let us know when you have confirmation. I have signed up...as have a number of people from my area. We are still waiting to get power back so I will check this thread to see if this race is still a go. The Santa Rosa, scheduled for this Saturday, is cancelled and the website is down completely. This should come as no surprise to anyone from the the northern Gulf Coast but I thought some from out of town may need to know.

i figured it was cancelled. is there still a santa rosa beach left?

hey trimom, where are you from? I come down to the ft. walton/destin area a lot. it is like my second home. do a lot of testing at Eglin. i have seen tons of pics from navarre to mobile, but haven't heard much about ft. walton to panama city. just wondering.

i need to come down that way very soon and check on my test site at eglin. since I-10 is closed, is everyone using hwy 90 now?

There's nothing on Active.com, nothing on the Multisport.com website (race oranizers), nor on their message board to indicate that the race is canceled.  I emailed the race director yesteray and as of noon today, have no response.  The race is still 2 weeks away so we'll see what happens.

Hi L2T....we are in Mobile. I understand I-10 to Pensacola is open but a large section of the bridge over the Pensacla/Escambia Bay is still down. But that is just heresay...if you have business in the area confirm with FL DoT. Not sure about any of the other roads. Our local paper had alternate routes listed but I am not sure if those were just temporary.

There is a race scheduled in Panama City in mid-Ocotber as part of the Emerald Coast series. Does anyone know if it is still on or is it another victim of "never-to-go-away" Ivan?

I spoke with a co-worker who has a townhouse down there..........she said, and I quote "There is no more Crab Shack" meaning the restaurant is apparently in baaaad shape. She says they work fast but you never know. I hope the race is still on!!

I think the power is back on and we should know by tomorrow if the race is on or not. I just visited the website and the director will post into by Monday he hopes.

Check out the site: http://www.multisport.com/

Keep your fingers crossed!

to answer some questions here: the interstate bridge is still out. folks are using highway 90. someone mentioned the Crab Trap being destroyed, that could be the one here in Perdido Key which took a good hit. the Santa Rosa Island is a mess but i don't know if it will be changed forever or whether they will get it back to it's old self. good luck at the Destin Race if it's still on.

The website said the final decision on "go-no go" was postponed to today.  I take that to mean they're seriously considering going forward with this race.  I realize this race must have a low priority where it concerns all the other tasks to clean up and rebuild in Destin.  My hat's off to these folks to their indominable spirit for even considering moving forward with this event.

Yes, but is there anywhere to stay?  I haven't made any arrangements becuase I am afraid it will be cancelled.  if they decide to have it, does anyone know a good number to contact to see what is available and not damaged after the hurricane?

Decision should be made today regarding race. The poor race director is not having good luck....last year's race was turned into a duathlon due to stormy weather and rough water.

Here is the website to check for updates:
