Age Group Rank = 10/15
Pre-race routine:

Decided to just drive down to Alexandria day of the triathlon. Left at 4:15 a.m. and got there right around 6:15 a.m. Didn't really plan on a big breakfast. Had a drinkable yogurt and a granola bar and some water. Nothing spectacular about the pre-race. It was LLP's first triathlon, so focus was on getting her comfortable and I think we did okay there. Nice that it was a small women's tri so it was very low key.
Event warmup:

No real warmup. Just got in the pool and swam one lap before the race info meeting. Then it was time to line up for the swim. (time trial start)
Swim

  • 300 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pool swim. Haven't really been training on the swim so I wasn't expecting much. I estimated my swim time to be 6:30 for the 300yds, so I was right on the money. First 150yds were really good....started to get tired and breathing was a bit labored towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, just practice more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Was a bit out of breath getting to T1. Bikes were a bit squished in the racks, so not much space in T1 so I slowed down. Who am I kidding? I'm just slow!
What would you do differently?:

There isn't anything different to do here. Just move faster.
Bike
  • 37m 11s

Comments:

Wanted to really kill on this course, so I went all out. I'm just slow as molasses right now because I haven't been training. I really have nothing to comment on except that the roads were a bit rough in spots. Also, coming back into T2 I was a bit confused as to where to dismount, so I lost a few seconds while I was trying to figure it out and clipped out way too early.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to put some mileage in. A bit disappointed in my time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Out of breath! But able to rack the bike and got my shoes on and started running. Saw LLP at T2 and waved and yelled hello while I headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Run
  • 27m 43s
  • 2 miles
  • 13m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Started to get a calf cramp in the first 100 yards so I let up a bit because I was worried about a full-blown charlie horse. Okay, no excuses, I just haven't been training AT ALL and my running shows how much I've digressed. Running has never been my strong suit anyway and with the humidity and the lack of endurance, the run was painfully slow.
What would you do differently?:

Run, run, run.
Post race
Warm down:

Finished and waited for LLP to finish. Boy was it hot and humid! I did get back on the run course and ran in with LLP. I truly enjoyed that experience especially because it was her first triathlon. What an honor! We had so much fun just chatting and running together.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not having trained properly the last 3 months. It's been very busy with lots of life changes, but I'm coming back into my own slowly.

Event comments:

Nice race, especially for the small size and a women's tri at that. Need a bit more zest and pep at the post race party, but overall it was very nice.
