Total Time = 1h 26m 41s
Overall Rank = 97/278
Age Group = 20-29
Age Group Rank = 20/36
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area and chatted with all my friends at the race.
Swim
  • 13m 2s
  • 583 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

I decided to wear my wetsuit as a comfort thing and in the end it cost me a good performance today. The swim went okay. I could tell within the first 200 meters that I was very warm.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear my wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Once I got out of the transition area with my bike I went to get on and suddenly my stomach had other ideas. I had to pull over to the side of the road and let my breakfast come back out. After 1:00 to 1:30 I managed to get on the bike and take off.
What would you do differently?:

Not puke.
Bike
  • 45m 32s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Once I got on the bike I felt very comfortable. My time includes my upchucking session, which slows it down. I passed a lot of people on the bike course in my heat but also had quite a few guys from the 2nd heat pass me. Those dang guys with mortgages on their bike :) Didn't have a problem with my stomach during the rest of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Not start of with a puking sesssion.
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

During the bike I took off the top portion of my one piece tri suit and as I stood up to climb a hill it got caught on my seat. I noticed it but I thought it would come right off when I would stand up again. So as I came in for T2 I was stuck on my bike. My shoes were unclipped but yeah I kind of had a crash but didn't scrap myself at all. I'll have to check the bike for any marks. Switching shoes went great and off on the run I went!!
What would you do differently?:

Not crash coming into T2.
Run
  • 26m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

SLOW!! I didn't feel this slow during the run. I was extremely warm and just wanted to make sure I didn't have another puking session. I need to work on my running legs coming off of the bike. They didn't feel great, but not extremely horrible. But I feel like I should be quicker in the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!!
Post race
Warm down:

Cooled down and chatted with friends again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Decision making (Wetsuit and coming into T2)

Event comments:

Could have used another water station on the run. It was only 3 mile sbut it was HOT!!

Nice job of carrying on despite puking and crashing!  I can't believe how speedy you were on that bike despite those minor obstacles .  Great race report.

Nathan, I think you did a great job given the difficulties! We all have those days when our bodies decide to do things other than what we want. I am glad you didn't hurt yourself falling!!! Curious though....how hot was it out there?

Next time, don't stop to puke. Like putting on bike shoes, it is a task best performed when one is moving in a forward direction as less time is lost. Besides, puke stains make a cool streak on the road.

Second, you are lucky that your tri suit didn't get pulled off. Tri suits and dangling body parts can get caught in the spokes and make for a painful situation.

Great to talk to you today. You have a great attitude and will progress in this sport if you persevere.
