Pre-race routine:

woke up at 7 and really got ready too lazily - we didn't leave the house till a quarter to 8 and that was much too late to get to the site by 8
drank water and ate a toasted english muffin w/cheese and blackberry jam
no coffee - would have liked a tea, but no time
Event warmup:

jorge dropped me off at 96th, so i had to RUN to the registration area (around 102nd) to get my number and timing chip and then put it all on and EUN back to the start chute - barely made it

Comments:

overall i'm bummed with how i did.
basically, this sucked for me.
happy to have done another nyrr race - one more to go to qualify for the '08 marathon - and that's something i really want to do.
i was hoping to beat my last 10k time, but the bod wasn't havin' it today. my knee friggin' hurt again and for this run, i had the added fun of a blister on my left foot.
oy! i need new running shoes BAD.

What would you do differently?:

get new shoes before this race - i might have to take up a collection or rob a bank to afford them...
Post race
Warm down:

hooked up w/jorge and brianna who came to see me run.
stretched under a shady tree and called to see how nora did on her first five miler

What limited your ability to perform faster:

injuries? poor footgear?

Event comments:

fun race - would have liked to take advantage of the swimming they offered free to race participants in central park's lasker pool but we had to get back home
one more nyrr race and i'm bound for the 2008 ing nyc marathon!

Performance: Bad
11.07 mile 1, not bad 11.21 mile 2, a tad slower, but still okay 11.39 mile 3, starting to feel knee pain and the heat 13.03 mile 4, this must have been when i stopped to get a hot dog or something - what happened? 11.53 mile 5, got a boost, but my knee wouldn't have it 12.42 mile 6, knee and added bonus fun of a blister made this rough 2.07 .2 to the finish - had to run, but it felt like i was slogging
Course: central park loop, headed northwest so the usual monster uphill at mile three was a nice long downhill for the first two miles *noooiiiice!* very shady this time

Woot! Woot! Just one step closer to the NYC marathon .

Good job out there today. Don't worry about it not being a great race...they can't all be perfect or PRs. And, MAKE SURE YOU GET NEW RUNNING SHOES BEFORE YOU GO ON ANOTHER RUN!!!!!!!!! What's the next race you're doing?
