I seriously doubt my family is going to be there in time to watch my stuff. So, I'll be wearing grungy sweat shirt and sweat pants until right before the race. That way if anyone is so cruel as to run off with them, I'm not out much.

I'm still sticking by the "let's mill around outside the restroom building before the first wave - ie - right before/after announcements.

By the way, last year when it was really cold, we ran the hand dryer continuously in that restroom and managed to keep it rather cozy.

I'll be there super early - so you can also look for me on one of the end spots of the women's racks, in whichever wave a 36 yr old is in. I have a white and blue LeMonds Alp d Huez. And, yes, I feel quite pleased in saying "nah na na na nah nah - I have a triple chain ring" when it comes to this race. :P

Sandi and I I will be there, probably with triDDS, will probably be pretty easy to find. He's 6'8", I'm 6'5". Not sure what time yet, but I'll either be wearing a gray Iowa sweatshirt or..... the all new and improved Tri-Donkai wind breaker (over TOP of above said gray Iowa sweatshirt)....

Aaarrggghhh! I can't believe that I STILL didn't meet any donkeys. Apparently, one of you spoke to my husband, who saw your tri-donk gear while waiting for me to finish and said, "hey, you're a donkey!" (or something like that). So, whoever that was, we're like separated by one degree now or something. *sigh*

Anyone know what the deal with the ambulance was? I heard that someone got pulled out of the water non-responsive, but I don't know much more than that.

I heard someone had a heart attack. CPR was done, and person was revived. Had IV's in when in the ambulance. Hope he's o.k.

Deanna, I met your husband, he was standing right by Travis's parents who I just happened to stand right next to as he came into the finish. I am sorry I wasn't able to stick around and meet you and hang out some, but we had to get back to the hotel and I had to shower and get checked out by 11.

Working on the RR right now, so it should be done shortly

I thought it might have been you. Well, glad you got to meet my family, even if you didn't get to meet me. That makes you almost not a stranger, right?

Nice job on the race today. I'm not sure it's possible to do enough hill training to be prepared for Devil's Lake. I think maybe I should just go up there and ride the course about 100 times before next year. Then, I MIGHT be prepared.

I was able to meet Travis and Chris while they were in the bike transition prior to start.  Before the start and just the lady announced some stuff I gave an EEEAAAWWW, but I don't think anyone heard me or all were by the signup area yet.  I decided at the very last second to ask the lady announcer if they needed more volunteer help, and they had a spot for me on the bike - I was the LOUD guy telling everyone to watch the sharp, left turn onto Hwy W after coming down that fast descent.

It was really cool to catch Travis and Chris and EEEAAAWWW them on the descent and before the turn.  Who was the leader because he had a gigantic lead on everyone - must have been a trophy hunter?

They pulled out an unconscious person from the swim because I heard that the person suffered a heart attack.  Scary.

Great job, all, considering the cold - BRRRRRR!

When I read Travis' race report (I think it was his) and he said you were a bike volunteer, I figured that must have been you. I didn't actually _look_ at you, but I think I said "thanks" as I went through. Mostly I was trying to avoid wiping out.

hi all! My first post here and my first tri. I had one of the best times of my life today at the Devils challenge, despite the frosty conditions! I have never shivered so much, so much so I thought I was going to fall off my bike. Even so, it was still a great day! I think I'm hooked! Cheers!!

Some sad news to report.  When I was visited my brother today (Sunday), he told me that they reported on the news last night that the person that suffered the heart attack did pass away.

I did not hear who the person was, but I offer my condolences to the family of this person.  If anyone from the triathlon community knew who this person was, I'm sorry for your loss.

We were spectating the race and saw the gentlemen pulled from the water by the lifeguard...the care that this man received was incredibly quick - there were nurses and paramedics on the scene immediately administering CPR, IVs, etc. Kudos to them for their hard work to do the best they could to help him.

We heard the same story from a friend who performed CPR on him that it was a heart attack, approx 50 yards from the last buoy. It was a pretty somber event, at least from a spectator perspective - the athletes obviously had no idea being out on the course. Very very sad and our thoughts and prayers go out to this family!

Deepest Sympathy,

The man's name was Dan Eimermann. He was a part of the Madison Headhunters group - very fit and well prepared for the race. It's a reminder to all of us that none of us are immune, eh?

Dan was a friend to many in the Madison tri community. Many of us feel a great loss with this passing.

Please pass along your Positive Vibes to his wife and 2 daughters...

This seriously puts life in perspective. My prayers go out to this family.

We really take a lot for granted, even when we are in great shape life can twist.

A moment of silence and prayer

God Bless his family
