I'm not in their group, but from what I heard is that it is their symbol for "stubborness".  Correct me if I'm wrong, Tri-Donkai team.

JayJay - 2007-08-01 9:50 AM I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is the fascination with the donkey?

Yep, thats one attribute.  Plus most of us have a sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves too.  Many who don the donkey head tri top find themselves fan faves and that helps too.

Thanks for the clarification. Glad your group has a great sense of humor and the stubborness to get through your training. Good luck at IMOO '07!

Well, we're inside 40 days.  Training is still going well.  Currently right in the middle of "Four Days of Forty" on the bike with a big 5:30 ride coming this weekend.

I wish it could be on the IM-Moo course, but Madison is 7 hours from here - so, I will have to utilize the hills here in southern Illinois.  I will have to preview the course (bike and run) once I get there the week before the race.  I envy those of you that can train on the course each week.

In any event, the heat down here this week has been good training for a potential sauna in Madison on race day.  Its been in the mid-90s and nearly matching humidity here the last couple of days and supposed to get hotter through the weekend.  Its a pain lugging all the nutrition and hydration along on rides.

Stay healthy, keep training and remain positive!!

Well, some bad news for training for me - I have been asked to coach our Little League Coach-picked (All-Star) team for the final tournament we are in this coming Sat. and Sun. and can't back out of it.  I'm really glad to be the main coach because I love coaching the kids, but still down-hearted because I wanted to do the bike course on Sat.  I'll figure this out somehow.

So, no EEEEAAAAAAYYYYAAAAWWWW from me to the Donkai team on the course this weekend.  Sorry.

1stTimeTri - 2007-08-01 9:09 AM

I'm planning on doing the full bike this coming Sat. Aug. 4. I plan on getting there early in the morning no later than 6:00 a.m. so as to finish by 2:00 p.m. or later (have some plans for the afternoon). I was going to park near the Sheraton across from the Alliant Energy Center and go from there. I biked about a 15 mph average for the first loop (80) miles this past Sat. and hope to improve on that a bit. I took my sweet time, got lost a few times, and felt I had to work hard on the hills. Maybe I'll see you out there and we can cheer each other up!

firstnet911 - 2007-08-01 6:31 AM

The pink arrows were nice, but should not have been there. The cooler with the ice and h2o was awesome.

Planning to do the full course this Saturday- and it looks like it's going to be HOT and HUMID! Still deciding where to park. I'm leaning towards parking at the start of the loop, riding the out and back and then the loops. That way I can use the car as "special needs". However, I'd like to feel the ride back in at the 100 mile mark... decisions...decisions....

Good luck to everyone prepping for Moooo.

Great job doing the bike course - it will be tough!

Your worried about the run, well, I'm REALLY worried about the swim.

So, together let's just remember what "thebear" says in the main forum:

 SUCK IT UP, BUTTERCUP!

You will be fine.  And remember what I have been telling my Little League team for the last couple days - THINK POSITIVE, NO NEGATIVES!!

Cheers.

Funny, the last time(okay, only time) I rode the course was in the rain too
Seriously, just take it one step at a time and think in terms of what you've already accomplished both in training to get to the starting line and that day getting to the run.

So, do you have to actually train with the donkeys to be part of donkey nation? Or, does Wisconsin residence, stubborn attitude, and a penchant for fun qualify?

We actually have peeps around the country and even England, so training with physically is not a requirement but we keep tabs on one another and try to work out when we can.

I did a century in 100 degree heat yesterday.. I know Wisconsin won't be that hot.. I'm ready for this thing... bring it.

ok.. i'm not THAT confident, after all, this is my first. Nutrition will be the most important part of the day... bar none.

Man I'm excited for all of this years participants. I live in Florida and just booked a flight to Madison for the weekend of this years race. Me and a couple of friends will be coming to watch the race and to register on-site for IM WI '08.

We were able to find a good deal on renting some carbon road bikes, for about $45 each for the weekend. We were going to use them to commute around town, as well as ride the bike course. Does anybody think there will be a problem with us riding the course Saturday, 8/8/07 the day before the race? It's the only day we'll be able to fit it in. We planned on doing the out portion and one loop. Thanks for any input!

If I recall correctly, the downtown area is closed all weekend (like you won't be able to ride the helix at the Terrace), but the majority of the bike course will be open on Saturday.

Only 32 days, 10 hours, 30 minutes, and 20 seconds until the start of the race!

We are riding long this weekend (8.11), since we did Steelhead 70.3 this weekend. We are trying to decide which option we'll ride...

Option A
Ride the entire course - 112 miles

OR

Option B
Ride three loops - 120 miles - this seems daunting but would build the confidence

What would you all do for your longest ride?

I think thats more than enough if you are getting some hillies in with that.  The ride back into Madison I thought my legs were toast but once I laced up the shoes, legs felt spectacular.  Thank you tri bike!!

I'm averaging ~5k feet of climbing per long ride.  This weekend's century has 7k feet of climbing.
