Pre-race routine:

After not sleeping a wink ;-) got up before the crack of dawn. Had a bowl of cereal and bananna, double checked everything, had a half a cup of coffee and was off. Got there pretty early and found my friends, ran around like a headless chicken and then all of the sudden they were starting!!!!
Event warmup:

No warm up, didn't have any time- it went by so fast! And here I thought I would be able to leaf through a magazine because I was so early!!! I wont make that mistake again ;-)
Swim
  • 23m 54s
  • 800 yards
  • 02m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

OHMIGOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really really hated the swim. I know people say that but I really did. I started at the back of my pack and ended at the back of the next wave! At least I wan't kicked or anything ;-) I felt like I wasn't moving the entire time. Then I got stuck in the weird lake plants trying to climb out of the water. Sweet relief getting out...
What would you do differently?:

Seriously train for the next one. More OWS, less 25 yard pool.
Transition 1
  • 03m 45s
Comments:

I had so carefully laid out all of my things. Little did I know I wouldn't even use a towel! I got my socks and shoes on soaking wet and ran with my bike
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was so great just going for it. God what a good time!
Bike
  • 39m 49s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.08 mile/hr
Comments:

What a thrill!!! I felt strong and fast, and I passed people!!! Lots more than I had anticipated. Then there were about four of us who just kept passing and repassing each other. Of course there was no game face for me- I just kept grinning like an idiot! ;-)
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to drink most of the time. About halfway through I remembered, but I didn't get much into me. Also my cat eye wasn't working, so I couldn't tell if I was keeping a steady pace or not.
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

I almost crashed (running the bike) when my husband a daughter came running beside me to cheer me on. Then when I got to the area, I had to pin my number on. I swam in my singlet, and I didn't have a race belt, so there you go.
What would you do differently?:

Get a race belt or another t-shirt to throw on that has my number pre-pinned on. Or better yet, get a darn belt!
Run
  • 33m 13s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Ended up going faster than I thought I would. Felt good. I was just high the whole time. Seriously, I could not stop the grin!
What would you do differently?:

Nada. I'm a happy girl.
Post race
Warm down:

I wanted to see my friends finish, so I was scared to leave the finish line. Little did I know I would be waiting for almost an hour!! Some of my friends decided to stick with their moms, who walked the run, so I didn't end up stretching or anything. I felt okay today, until I was running around the same course cheering for my husband and I seem to have pulled a muscle in my L calf.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swimming skill! ;-)

Event comments:

I will defintely be doing this next year, unless my dh talks me into getting pregnant again. (He's already started the campaign.) Can you do this pregnant??????
