Oh Laerka,

I'm fighting back the tears. Your son is so wonderful to take lemons and actually make lemonade. Could it be that he needed to know what it felt like to be a leader that's why he had to play A2 this year? I'm so proud of you for raising a wonderful son. There is no greater gift in this world than a parent who nutures and loves a child so as to watch that child give to another. You have truly blessed the world with your son and I'm glad he's doing better. Oh and as for your other son, well we need the wild ones too!

Oh Laerka,

I'm fighting back the tears.

Oh dear, now I am too!  Kind words all - thank you.

Charles, as a matter of fact ... thier PE teacher at school is a triathlete, and he started a Kids of Steel training program for the students.  So they actually got me into triathlons!!

I will certainly pass along to him all the warm thoughts from here.

You just keep giving your son big ole' hugs. He wants to know you love him even if he didn't make the "right" hockey team.

Interestingly enough, I really think he did make the right team. He's a leader on this team, he's looked up to, he's a teacher. Disappointment is great when its handled the way Laerka handled it. It can break you, or it will temper you so that you come out stronger for the experience. Triumph is so much sweeter when one has experienced disappointment, because you truly know how bad that disappointment sucks. Mental toughness and self confidence are some of the hardest things to teach young ones. Sounds like this 11 year old has plenty of both.
