Overall Rank = 23/100

Age Group Rank = 4/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, was staying at a buddies place, had a cup of coffe, some oatmeal and headed down to the headquaters to set up and get inked
Event warmup:

Little bit of stretching, took a quick swim to climatize to the water.
Swim
  • 28m 32s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 54s / 100 meters
Comments:

Salt water tastes bad! I developed a bad stitch in my side that stayed with me for the entire race. VERY dehydrated. Thanks for the quadruple Rum & Coke Toth!
What would you do differently?:

Not stay up drinking with my buddies. Drink H2O.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

One of my better T1's, there was no chip mat but it went pretty fast, no problems.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, everyone was pretty envious of my water dish to wash off all the sand from my feet.
Bike
  • 1h 15m 17s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Not bad for a bike that is all Aluminum, no carbon and has 650mm wheels. He worked his saddle off for me today, we make a great team!
What would you do differently?:

Try harder. Don't be such a wuss.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again, no mat, but it was sooth..ish I guess. I was a bit scatter brained and dioriented. Same thing I guess.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Hard to improve on perfection.
Run
  • 49m 28s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was very nice, very senic. With all the times I stopped due to massive cramps that a weaker man would have ended his life with, I was able to take it all in. This is where the wheels came off; hamstrings seized, cramps in the side, chest and lungs were burning. Thanksfully I stopped befre hitting the run mat and grabbed a water bottle. Worst run ever.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water.
Post race
Warm down:

The finisher meadal was put on my neck, I fell to the ground. Someone poked me with a stick to see if I was still breathing. My buddy and his wife showed me all the pictures they took. I eat a lot of the free food. Oh yeah, i drank a bit of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a suck ass moron. The hydration killed my run and really discouraged me. I was amazed I managed to pull of a top quarter finish with my run the way it was. 1.5 seconds from a podium finsh...idiot!

I pasted a lot of people and I have gained a lot of confidence in my biking. There was a 70% chance of rain. Thank god it didn't.

See what all those core workouts did for you! You probably would have bonked if you didn't do them!
Your average bike time looks great with all the hills you had to conquer!

Note to self rum is not a good idea before a race! I am not trying to be your mother. I see podium in your future!

GREAT JOB!

Hah! You did a great job, despite the drinks the night before! And being poked with a stick at the end.. priceless. Those must be some interesting pictures....

Great job Haz!! Definitely a great overall race experience from the sounds of it! And you still managed to pull off a really good time. Maybe if that quad rum was only a triple you would've made the podium!! Note for next time!!
