Swim
Comments: We lined up according to our 300 yard swim times and then one person jumped in every 10 seconds. Since we were using chip timing, physical place didn't matter. What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing - the swim was great. My only gripe is that part of our swim time included the run from the water to the transition area. Oh well. According to my watch, I was actually in the water for 5:45, so I was pleased. Transition 1
Comments: I brought a bucket and put water in it to rinse the debris off my feet when I got to my bike. It worked great! My socks went on great, I didn't have any problems with my helmet or sunglasses, and since I put my gloves on during the bike ride, I didn't have to wrestle with them. What would you do differently?: I don't know how I could get any faster on my transition right now. Bike
Comments: I had checked the elevation on Google earth, and it lied to me. We drove the course a couple times the night before and weren't very excited about it. There were no long flat stretches. It was either up or down. Oh well. What would you do differently?: Train more on hills! Transition 2
Comments: I felt like I had a good transition here, with the exception that I fought for a couple seconds with my gloves. I should have just kept them on and stuffed them in my shirt pockets. I will do this next time! What would you do differently?: Don't fight with the bike gloves - take them with me. Run
Comments: I stretched my calves before leaving the transition area, and then once more about 1/2 mile in to the run. I wanted to avoid any cramps. About 2/3 mile in to the run, my HR was still pretty high (180+), so I stopped to walk briskly until it settled down towards 120-130. It did and I took off. What would you do differently?: Nothing! I had a great run and felt good out there. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for a couple minutes and then stretched really good. What limited your ability to perform faster: There is a saying we have here at BT: Nothing New on Race Day. My only problem came from trying a new flavor of GU: Mint Chocolate. It went down fine, but gave me some issues on the run as it was digesting properly. My guess is that I didn't need it at all. Event comments: The organization of this race was first rate! We did not stick around for the awards ceremony as we had to get back up to KC for activities at home. There were a lot of great volunteers and staff that knew what was going on, which was awesome! I will definitely be back next year! Last updated: 2007-08-19 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:00am to shower and eat some breakfast (Powerade and a granola bar). Got to the race site around 6:00 and set up our transition area after getting marked. Went to get our timing chips.
Ran about 1/4 mile then stretched really good. The pool opened up at 6:45, so I swam 100 yards and stretched some more. Then my friend Roger and I went off to pray and get ready.
