Subject: Poetry Thursday on Friday?

Was listening to an interview of the US poet laureate (forget his name). He said the point of poetry is to remind people of their own humanity.

So, how about we make the topic of Poetry Thursday On Friday "humanity"?

Man, I miss Fish!

There once was a thing called humanity,
Whose tenure evidenced a calamity,
Too many backs turned,
In a world that did spurn,
Simple acts that could foster unanimity.

South Florida is a rough place these days.

Darn apostrophies.

I love my thumbs
because ants do not have them.
I can wrap my hands entirely
around burdens
and carry them with me.

Integrated pacifier of nervous babies,
 antiquated solicitation
of a free ride,
Life and death for gladiators,
and text messages
schoolyard wrestling
approval when up
defiance on the nose

Thumbless,
the grim reaper
could not hold an
eternal scythe.

A Haiku for your enjoyment:

OH Huge Manatee-

Awesome.

I'm going with:

Why do I care
when the people of the world
are murdering each other by the thousands
on a daily basis?

There is little to hope for us
because we, as a people on a planet
can't seem to understand that
we have to live with each other.

Forever. And no amount of killing with
eliminate the Muslims, the Jews, the infidels, the Sunnis, the Shiites,
so the ends will never
justify the means.

***

Or simply:

Humanity. We love a good explosion.

Humanity

My grey house in the suburbs
stands in the middle of grass
greener than a stormy sky.

My children, healthy and strong,
return from school like the tide
bombards the jagged coastline of Oregon.

My husband calls me from work,
his voice soft and excited from the prospect
of Dish Network instead of cable television.

And through these wonders my mind
chooses to lament the time split
of my last half-marathon.
