Subject: Hard Effort--Intense Sugar Cravings

After a hard Oly on Sunday, like after most endurance efforts, I craved red meat and had it. Day of and day after, I'm not that hungry.

Now, I have had intense sugar cravings all day. This has never happened to this degree (before, I'd have some Krispy Treats or ice cream and be fine). I'm snorking fruit, fruit juice, 70% cacao chocolate, tea with Splenda, but it is NOT abating.

I assume this is fairly common, but will it go away? It's overwhelming. Would eating something salty help? HELP!

Yep. Happens to me to. Usually a quart or of Ice Cream later I am fine.

Seriously, I have a sweet fang a mile long after an intense long workout or a race that goes on for a few days afterward.

That's because hard efforts use up more of your glycogen stores for fuel while lower efforts burn fat. This is your body's way of trying to replenish glycogen.

After a hard effort normally the first thing I want is a cold soda. Best thing in the world.

I wear a HR monitor. you would be surpsied how much that helps with the cravings. Too intense means you too hungry and want something high in sugar.

Eating more protein has helped curb some of my sugar cravings.  At least I eat a little bit less sugar when I have more protein.

Cheese and olives do it for me. I think the creamy mouth feel and high fat keeps me satiated. I don't do it all the time, only when the cravings are really strong.

I get the same thing (red meat and sugar) but I have a really bad sweet tooth.

My thoughts are since I burned 1,000+ calories a bag of Sour Patch Kids during the day and a filet for dinner are the spoils of my accomplishment

Amazing how you can pick out sex by a person's name. Hi, I'm Justin... You're Susan right? Oh, sorry Steve... My bad.

Maybe talk to Mike or Eddie or the other guys that posted.

Next you're going to tell me that you also crave ice cream and pickles.  Are you trying to tell us that you're pregnant??
