Subject: Challenged Athletes Foundation As you may or may not know, the offices of the Challenged Athletes Foundation were destroyed by a fire last week. The organization was founded by triathletes and does incredible work. A thread with more information about the fire can be found here. In a nutshell, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of items to be used in their biggest annual fundraiser were lost in the fire. The fundraiser is Oct 28 and they are committed to putting it on. It's time for the triathlon community to step up. Towards this end, I'm going to donate one dollar for every mile I bike and run from Oct 1 to Oct 28 to the Challenged Athletes foundation. I invite you do the same or similar. It doesn't have to be much. 50 cents for every mile ran, a penny for each yard swam, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that the organization isn't left to hope that an insurance settlement will see them through. It certainly may, but they need money now.
This isn't a formal fundraiser being put on by BeginnerTriathlete or the Challenged Athletes Foundation. We have no affiliation. This is just a personal thing I'm doing for what I believe is a worthwhile cause and an important part of the triathlon community. If you're interested, just post in this thread what you're willing to commit to. To learn more about the Challenged Athletes Foundation go to their website. To donate money to them, go to their fundraising page. This is where I'll be making my donation on Oct 29.
