Total Time = 1h 23m 25s
Overall Rank = 82/172
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Had a Cliff bar in the car and water. Not enough carbs.
Event warmup:

Got a late start - had to go back for mtn bike and neither of us was really sure where Cherry Creek Res was. Ran to get #s, ran to staging. Ran out of time for porto potty :(
Run
  • 32m 4s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 08m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't eat enough breakfast so had some Cliff gel along the way -- no water to wash it down w/ so just a pinch between the cheek and gums. Dam glasses fogged and when taking them off the ear things fell off so ran back to pick them up.
What would you do differently?:

eat more beforehand and get there in time to use the porto potty
Transition 1
  • 05m 44s
Comments:

Had to walk part of the way to T1. I was not organized at staging. Drank some water. Seat too low so tried to adjust it.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the bike the day before to see if child #3 had lowered the seat and if derailleurs worked.
Bike
  • 45m 37s
  • 10.8 miles
  • 14.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Stopped to try to clear fogged/frozen glasses, stopped to raise seat 2x, stopped when rear wheel froze (undid rear brakes, took off and put back on rear wheel). Shifting sucked -- had to pump shifter to get onto big chain ring; rear derailleur possessed by demons at times. Calves started cramping -- I have calves now!!

BUT passed lots of riders and didn't feel like I was working hard at all. Must be all that riding I've done w/ HAMS!
What would you do differently?:

Test equipment a day or 2 beforehand to find out if it works.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 00m

  •  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Lock the keys in the car and run around in the effing freezing weather trying to get the car open before the place was deserted.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough speed training, not enough carbs in diet these days, haven't spent enough time on mtn bike

Event comments:

Too cold to hang out afterwards even tho we had no choice cuz we couldn't leave. Race folks were great and we tried to help them pack up while waiting for the locksmith who didn't know where Cherry Ck Res was. Was hoping to hang out w/ BTers since for once we didn't have to race off to something else, but .... Maybe next week!!

Hey great job! You got a lot of points in the series then... woohoo... that should make up for the locked keys in the car.
