Pre-race routine:

Just got my stuff together and ate some breakfast then stopped by to pick up Scott on the way.
Event warmup:

Just did some jogging to warm up and check out the roads. They announced that the bike portion was optional so it didn't take me long to decide that I would do the run only. The roads were slick and I wasn't all that comfortable going hard on my road bike. In hindsight I probably should have done it anyway to get the experience since it didn't count for points anyway.
Run
  • 26m 18s
  • 3.93 miles
  • 06m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off at the front and just hung back a little from the leaders. There were around 10 people ahead of me through the first mile and I hit that at 5:59 which was right where I wanted to be. A couple of people passed me right after that and then a few more passed me on the uphill back stretch. I hit the 2nd mile at a 6:59 pace. I felt good the whole time and ended up passing one guy back in the last road stretch and was hoping to catch a group of 4 runners around 40 yards ahead of me but I couldn't real them in. I felt good when I finished and could have easily hammered the bike if the conditions were better.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I could have done better is hit that back uphill stretch a little harder. That's where a few people passed me.

Didn't do this optional part today but I sort of wish I would have. I would have liked to have seen how well I stacked up to the top 5 overall finishers.

Warm down:

Went to the car so I didn't start freezing my butt off. I was warm when I finished the run, but I knew I would freeze if I stood around after I finished. We went to Wahoo's with everyone to eat afterwards.

Event comments:

Overall this was a fun race. I need to get used to riding on wet and snowy roads if I want to do well in this series.
