Subject: Tomorrow is my FIRST tri!!! (Long) Well, tomorrow is my first tri. I am excited and nervous. I have packed my bag. Gee, it sounds like I am going to the hospital to have a baby. J Why in the world am I doing a tri in November, in a place where it is cold? Because spring was too far away for me and I needed training gratification sooner. The current forecast calls for a race time temp in the upper 20s (F) and NW winds 15-25 mph. At least the swim is indoors. The following additional items have been added to my tri bag, keeping in mind the “dress 20 degrees warmer than it is” advice: Hot Hands Two hats, one that will fit under my helmet and a wool/fleece one for the run. Gloves Windproof outer gloves Ear warmer Scarf Sweatpants Polyprop. Underwear Windproof shell for run and bike I’m gonna look like the snowsuit wearing little brother in “A Christmas Story”. I want to thank all of you for your support and sharing your experiences, knowledge and humor. I have learned so much from you. My goal is to finish. I think I will be the athlete who spends the most time in the cold since I am slow Time really isn’t important to me this race. When I write again I will be what my triathlete brother calls a “didathlete” (as in I not only tried, but did). I am planning on finishing, winning the elected officials division (the division I made up for myself), winning all the prizes in the post-race drawing, coming home, vegetating on the couch while I watch the Ironman Kona coverage, eat pizza and watch my BYU Cougars get beaten by the Utah Utes. Maybe I will even get a nap. My entire day is planned. Today I get to eat quantities of carbs without guilt! That in and of itself makes triing worth it. |
