Well last year was my first year and I did only sprint Duathlons and a few road races (my swim was not ready for tri's). I've been working on my swim alot since the end of last season, so this season I'm gonna start with a try-a-tri then see how it goes and work my way up too an olympic possibly by the end of the season if my swim keeps getting better. Something like this...

Forest city road race- 1/2 marathon
Lakeside-try-a-tri
Toronto to Niagara Falls ride to conquer cancer- 200km bike ride
Gulph lake 2- Sprint tri

those are the for sure races, I also plan on doing a couple more sprint tri's, a couple 5k and 10k's, maybe another 1/2 marathon, and possibly an Olympic Tri.

good luck guys, have a great 2008 season

Just one - 'A' race - Triathlon World Championships, Jun 6 in Vancouver.  Qualified through Wasaga last year.

Problem - This is so early in the season.  The Worlds may be my first open water swim for the year.  Ouch, and the swim is my weakest link!

On a positive note, I finally put together my training schedule for next season.  One 11x17 spreadsheet that I keep on the night table that tells me what I'm supposed to do every day for 2008.  And I purchased a computrainer last month and I'm hammering away.

I also want to do a few sprints after the Worlds, but would be anti-climatic.  Thinking of Toronto and Cobourg, but Olympics is happening at that time, and I just may go to watch.

Hey Kevin, you look like a pro in the pics http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=99172&start=61

Good luck with your upcoming season, esp HIM at Bracebridge!  Hope you don't mind me checking your logs once in a while, and feel free to reciprocate.

I'd like to get a little more north for some better scenery, but so far the plan is to stick close to the SW (and I'll be having a Du-only season again this year) and doing mostly sprints:

Belle River tune-up early season

Leamington Tomatoman

Rondeau Provincial Park Bulldog

Sarnia Bluewater Oly distance

And a couple of other sprints I still haven't committed to. My 1/2 iron will have to wait until next year.

I'm beating myself up right now trying to decide whether or not to pack my bike and bring it to Florida for March break and take on the Wildman Oly duathlon in Orlando. We're flying down, and we travel light (carry-ons only) so as to avoid baggage check & claims, but the bike would deflate our efforts, and given the fact that I've really only had my ride together for 6 months, I'm a little paranoid about letting the airline apes have their way with it. Also, it would be on our last day in Florida, so the logistics of checking out of the motel would be left up to my better half, while I had the rental car for the race. Still debating...

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. My scheduled is in my signature, but my Goal race is Muskoka 70.3 so all will be leading to that goal.

I haven't even completed an Oly distance yet, was supposed to have been completed at Wasaga last year, but swim got cancelled again, so maybe I'll find an early season Oly for a test. I had signed up for Muskoka before the Wasaga.

I have a few additional running races (my standard ones each year), that will be added to my race list over the next couple months.

I am training with the 20 week HIM training and so far going ok, Hope to finish most of it swice so will be in ok shape by September. I am really a BOP'r and having just turned 50 last week and still a little (20lbs) over weight have a lot of work to get in HIM shape.

Hey Everyone,

Brand new to BT, but I am really liking it.

Tri-ing to get fit, and have fun. Last year there was a sprint tri-athalon here in Timmins , the "Heart of Gold", and I am thinking it might be a possibility this summer. However I have a busy spring planned including a trip to europe for 4 weeks, attending my Girlfriends Graduation back home out east in Halifax, and then moving into our new house!!!

I know I will be able to run in Europe, and running is the thing I need the most work on soooo here's hoping that there will be another triathalon here this summer and that Ill will be in shape for it when it comes.

Good luck to everyone for their training and races in 2008!

Hey Patricia,

I see you are using the computrainer. Are you happy with the results? Is it worth the investment? My husband and I have thought we might like one but are afraid it might be too complicated to 'operate'. We have trouble with the DVD's.

We are going to Vancouver as well, doing the sprint on the Friday. I take it you are doing the Olympic distance. When are you going out? Flying? Have you booked your hotel?

We're hoping the ice melts before then so we can get into Guelph Lake for a bit. Last year we were in on May 13th. Recently found out about the training races offered at Lake Whittaker (between Woodstock/London) starting on May 28th and continuing every Wednesday throughout the summer - 26 acre spring fed lake, 50 ft deep at spots.

We're going to do a couple of tri's in May - Kingston and Ottawa (pool swim), but the practice will be good, we think.

Good luck in Vancouver and hopefully we will get a chance to meet. We are staying through till Sunday to watch all the races.

The big goal for this year is to do either the Rondeau ong Guelph Lake II sprints. I did one itsy bitsy Try-a-Tri last year, and it is slowly taking over.

I am liking the sound of the Wasaga Beach one, but I am going to have to wait to see where I am by the end of the summer.

Last year was a Try-a-Tri with about 5 weeks of (don't know what I am doing) training. This year is a lot more focussed and deliberate.
