  • Comments: I hate traffic and standing in lines. And I feel like that's all I did the entire weekend. Whether it was going downtown to have dinner or trying to get through packet pickup. The line at the Ironman store was almost as long as the line to pick up my packet, so I didn't spend a few hundred bucks there. Maybe that's not a bad thing! I probably won't be back to do this race again, but that is more a factor of there being a ton of other 70.3's I want to try, not because it was a bad race. I feel the race officials and staff did a great job with getting things on the course as decent as it was. Sounds like it could have been alot worse, especially on the bike course. And of course the wind and heat are completely out of their control.

  • Comments: The wind was killer, but the bike route is awesome. The roads are a bit rough, but I loved the course itself. The run is almost never flat.

  • Comments: My Grandmother (Maw Maw) is going thru Chemo right now and is doing great. For this race i wrote Maw Maw on my cycling shoes....i wanted to be able to look down at my feet if at any part during the bike ride i thought i was hurting or it was getting tough and i would think about her and how tough she is and how nothing during the race could be as tough as what she is having to put her body thru right now...

  • Comments: Overall a tough course. The swim portion was great and I was glad to have a wetsuit. Bike course was rugged. Lots of chip seal, cracks and fissures in the road. Lots of turns. More gravel than anticipated. Glad I brought my road bike and not the tri-bike. Although, I should've added some clip-on aerobars because the headwind on the last 20 miles was brutal. The heat took its toll on the run, lots of people were hurting. Could've done without the off-road portion of the run but that's mainly because of an injured foot. This was a fun race, very challenging, and very rewarding. I have a time to beat.

  • Comments: I actually enjoyed this experience. The road conditions could not be controlled by the race organizers, so I won't hold them responsible. Thus I rate the race excellent. Will probably do this again next year after I train a bit better.

  • Comments: The volunteers were great! The spectators were great! and for the most part the fellow racers were great. (Not the guys grabbing my ankles during the swim and the ones that did not follow the no drafting and blocking rules, but hey what can you do). I had a great time, loved the race, the city and the whole experience!

  • Comments: the roads on the bike course have degraded further since last year, despite new pavement in a couple of sections and improved traffic control on the Webberville stretch (coned bike lane). The trail portion of the run course was in poor condition for a race of this magnitude.

  • Comments: Parking was a nightmare... I nearly missed my wave b/c I was in line to park for 45 minutes. There need to be more signs for spectators as well. For my first HIM, my goal was to cross the finish line. I was happy overall.

  • Comments: Successfully completed my first tri season. Furthermore, went from never having participated in any race of any kind (besides swim meets) in April to having completed, in order: a 10K in Austin at UT (May), an Olympic tri (CapTex, May), a 5K (along the water in San Diego, July), 5 weeks without any training or any cardio in Alaska (July-August); a sprint tri (Austin tri, September); and a half ironman (October). Definitely a weird pattern of events and training. Part of me wants to do a full ironman someday, part of me wants to do a marathon. I don’t think I’d love to commit the time to training appropriately for either of these but I think I could complete either one; perhaps a 3:30-3:40 marathon and maybe a 12:00-12:30 ironman? In the meantime, looking forward to more climbing, more tennis, and getting fat(ter) and laz(ier). I definitely think more sprint tri’s are in my future- that was a ton of fun to go out and hammer for a really short time and still have energy left in

  • Comments: I rate it average due the road surface on the bike. I also am not a fan of trail running. This made me feel like I was back in cross country in high school. Definitely not my favorite. I was also hoping it would be more through the nice scenic areas of Austin. It was a fairly ugly coarse.

  • Comments: Great race as far as I am concerned. Only negatives are it's so far away from everything so it's a haul to the race site and it's still too warm, for me anyway, in early October. Other than that...what a blast!

  • Comments: I loved the inside finish. The post race food was good and I enjoyed just sitting around and watching. The people in Austin definitely put on an excellent race. I would love to come back, however, with Muncie becoming a 70.3 and the temperature differences between Indy and Austin this time of year, I was not prepared for this heat. It was a great time and an great first time 70.3 branded race. For my first season, and the let down's I've had in not being consistent in training and my nutrition and a whole bunch of other reasons, I am sooo happy with my performance of 5:08 (which was 3 min off my "B" goal of 5:05) I've only been running (after a 3 year break) and swimming since July. With those factors, I've done 5 tri's in my first season 2 sprints, 1 oly, and 2 HIM's. I feel that I COULD finish a full Ironman next year, and had thought about signing up for Louisville, however, looking at myself and my mental state during the race, for the time being, I'm going to stay at the

  • Comments: Again, I'm not a fan of the off-road stuff. It's brutal. Good race, but not sure I'd do it again unless they took it all out on the pavement. My goal was 7 hours, so I'm happy with 6:34. But, I know I can do better if I'm not injured. The heat sucked, but I dealt with it. Next time, I will break 6:30 if not 6:15! I know where there is room for improvement.

  • Comments: Awesome organization. The different location transitions did my head in but only because this was the first time I'd experienced them and top of the travel from out of town logistics, it was just one more thing to worry about. But, as it turned out, I really liked transitioning in a different place. The inside-the-arena finish was fantastic. Great cauldron of emotion to reward the race effort. Keith and the organizers of this event sure know what they're doing. All the stations and volunteers on the 3 loop run segment were tremendous. The distractions of music and frequency of stations really help get you through the 13.1 miles. A+
