  • Comments: Setup does a great job. This was by far the largest race I've done, and I couldn't have dreamed of racing so well. I truly had the best race of my life. The crowds on Front St. were so uplifting; there were even a few cars full of "woo girls" that cheered as I rode passed. The course is fantastic, the organization and volunteers top notch, and the atmosphere awesome. The worst part was that the awards ceremony started 90 minutes late and we were frozen and sunburnt and exhausted. Then, we waited over an hour to get on a bus back to town. I hope they provide more busses/trolleys in the future, but still...great race production.

  • Comments: crazy race. tons of volunteer support, very well organized, and it is executed exactly how it is planned. however, in my opinion, the plan is a bit "over extended". there is just so much the athlete has to do to get to the starting line. having 2 transition areas and gear bags was confusing. and for spectators it is a nightmare. or rather i should say, having a wife and 2 small kids try to spectate is a nightmare. they can't watch the swim start, or the exit from the water. they can watch T1, but have to drive across town to go to T2. and they can't actually drive to T2 b/c its the battleships parking lot and can't accommodate all the cars, so they would have to take a water taxi or bus to get there. then after the race when all you want to do is be home, you have to either ride your bike a couple miles back in to town or wait for a uhaul to take your bike and a bus for yourself to ride. like i said, they never misrepresented anything. that was the plan the whole time. its

  • Comments: Would have rated a 5 had the exit plan been better executed. Really unhappy waiting 75 minutes for the trolley home. Aside from that, the race was awesome. I want to do this race in sunny weather without wind. Count me in for 2012.

  • Comments: As far as putting a race on, I've never not done one by Setup Events, and they've all seemed to go well. I really think that they did a remarkable job keeping this one moving and organized with all the point to point stuff. I'll be back to this one, but I'm not sure when.

  • Comments: SetUpEvents is TOP NOTCH. Ironman brand aught to be ashamed of itself. I would recommend this event and any other SetUpEvents branded race to anyone! My husband and I will be back, that's for sure! Volunteers and event staff were out of this world! The people of Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, NC should be awfully proud of themselves! Bravo!

  • Comments: This is a fun race. Wilmington is a neat little town and I really found the point to point aspect very challenging. I did not like running on the cobblestones though. I was terrified Of twisting my ankle, but that is because I am a clutz. I am very pleased with my physical and mental effort on the bike. I was disappointed in my swim because of my poor navigation and I let myself down on the run. Even if I would have run the same pace and same amount of time, I would have felt like the run was a success if I had executed my pre race plan. Must work on staying strong mentally til the bitter end of an event! And when it was all said and done, I got to take home some hardware. I got 5th Place Masters Female. Nice! My other Malone Coaching teammates all took home hardware in the half. And my coach was the 3rd place overall female in the full iron distance. So it was a very successful day!

  • Comments: This event deserved to be ranked second in the nation. Setup events had everything organized and running on schedule. The magnitude of this race was huge and the logistics must have been crazy (with the two transitions being 8 miles apart). All my bags were where they were supposed to be, when they were supposed to be there. The volunteers were wonderful. All the aid stations were stocked with enough supplies to get through the race. The law enforcement and DOT people did a good job with traffic control. I did have a couple of instances when I thought the traffic was a hazzard, but that was due to the drivers being idiots and not because of the race. Throughout the entire race there were people yelling their support. It was very motivating to have that many people out there.

  • Comments: What a great race. It is kind of a pain having to worry about all the logistics of separate transition areas but they do a great job keeping things organized. I'm considering coming back for the full next year but I'm going to wait for the soreness to subside before I make any rash decisions!

  • Comments: Unbelievable race. It's my first season but this is definitely my favorite race. I can't get over how many volunteers and supporters there were. Having three different transitions is confusing and having them 8miles apart sucks but they were pretty well organized and except for the transportation leaving the Battleship (which didn't effect me), they did a good job getting people and their bags where they needed to be. I'm definitely going to come back next year!

  • Comments: Loved this race! Despite the crazy dynamics of having two transition areas 8 miles apart plus a separate swim start location... it was organized VERY well. They did a great job of getting everyone and thier gear where it needed to be. Spectator support was awesome and the venue beautiful!

  • Comments: I thought this was a well organized and well run race. There were plenty of volunteers and spectators. But it is a hard race for spectators (having to deal with moving from T1 to T2). And after the race, it takes forever to get back off the island to downtown Wilmington. We stood in line for over an hour to ride the water taxi back to get to our car.

  • Comments: happy with my performance, maybe i could have worked the bike a little more on the way out. definitely should have gotten on the water taxi earlier, but i wanted to stick around to get my award. my bike needs work, and my transitions (219th on T2!) - it would have sucked to not break 5 because i spent too long in transition.

  • Comments: It was well done from an overall perspective but I could not find pizza at the end, I was looking for water (it was there but I was in a daze). But my pet peev is caution on the bike course. In town there needed more people to manage traffic. I heard of and saw several potential run ins with bikes and cars and I was one of them. Drivers were not paying atteention and some came in the right lane to go around the stopped traffic, only to wait to get back into the left lane, which then blocked the biker lanes. this may have happend since I was near the last wave and by that point drivers may have been upset at the wait? I'd also suggest wilmington Ports renting ferrie boats from other port cities to carry spectators back and forth. BUT, I could not even imagine what all it takes to set one of these up, so it must be hard work!
