  • Comments: I was ok with the water stations and support (did not grab water anywhere anyway on a short course), but I heard they ran out of finisher medals, and that means the people who really cherish them (first time athletes) did not get them at the finish. BOO! Mountain Man events is a good organization - a bit smaller than Red Rock, but they still manage to put on good, consistent events every time.

  • Comments: The most fun I've had at a triathlon. The course was incredibly beautiful - I wanted to slow down to take it all in. The volunteers were great, helpful, and cheerful. And they had donuts! Also set a sprint-distance PR. Was also encouraged - if I can shave a minute off of T1 or T2, or push it a little harder on the swim, bike, or run, I can run a sub 1:20 sprint. That would be really nice.

  • Comments: Despite the swim freak-out, I still beat my last sprint distance by 2 minutes - even with a longer swim. I'm always happy to be moving in the right direction. My next sprint distance goal is to go sub-1:10. I know I can do it.

  • Comments: This is a fun race. The altitude can get you if you're not used to it. It seems most people feel it on the swim, I know I did. The course isn't bad and is usually in good shape. I knocked 16 minutes off of my time from last year, so I'm happy about that.

  • Comments: I like the Mtn Man event team. They do not have the numbers (volunteers) like the bigger races, but they do a great job with what they have. It is hard to keep crowd control with smaller numbers of volunteers, but they make do overall. They did an awesome job of directing traffic on the highway as well as pointing the athletes on to their next part of the course.

  • Comments: Overall, I am pleased with my effort and times despite not being familiar or not having any high altitude training. The swim humbled me, but I think it was more of the climate that humbled me. Thinking that I could give the same level of effort from my races in phoenix and bring it to Flagstaff. Despite my mental breakdown on the run and panic on the swim, I had a lot of fun on this challenging race.

  • Comments: Overall not a bad first triathlon with less than 2 months of training, and less than a month on the bike. Now have a much better feel for the race distances, and preparation required

  • Comments: Since this was my first I really don't have anything to compare it too. The meeting on Saturday was helpful. The coarse was well laid out with enough volunteers. The barriers out of transition should have been farther apart to help traffic flow. There seemed like enough food to go around. I plan on doing this again next year. The scenery make this race. I can't imagine racing on a more beautiful coarse.

  • Comments: It's obvious that this race has been happening for many years- it's very well run and everything went very smoothly. Finisher's medals were nice, along with a ceramic mug (why?) and a typical plastic water bottle and cotton tshirt. The folks at this race (both racing and non-racing) were all really nice and supportive, and it was a fun morning. If this location wasn't so beautiful I don't think I would have been able to enjoy the race so much through my difficulties breathing, but being able to look down at the lake made for a nice distraction.

  • Comments: Well organized race, beautiful scenery and I am in love with the bike course. 7000 Feet of elevation and steadily rising temperatures made the run feel like a bit of a death march!

  • Comments: Love this race! The weather and race conditions were perfect. It was my first race in 2007 but then I hadn't gotten to do it again since it used to be on the same day as the Olympic and HIM distance. Now they split the event into two and I could race this Sprint as a training race for the HIM in 3 weeks. I know I will slow down on the bike for that race...

  • Comments: I really like this event however it was only race I've ever been at where there were absolutely NO refreshments after the race. No gatorade, no fruit, nothing. The swag bag was real good tho. Need signs for race day packet pick up next year.

  • Comments: There were some problems with organization and communication with the participants. The transition area had ran out of water as the HIM racers were coming in, they were pretty upset by it. We had no idea where the food and award ceremony was, I guess it was announced earlier, but it would have been nice if it had been communicated before the race where all this was taking place. The course is absolutely stunning and I'd highly recommend it to anyone, overall I had a great time and I'll be back next year!

  • Comments: Every race I finish is the best race I've had. I might not come in first, but as long as I learn from my mistakes had fun and give it my all, I can’t ask for too much more. There was so much more that went into this race that set it above the rest. The views were great, the RAIN was awesome, the Lunch was delicious (I could have ate all day), It was really fun to know a lot of people racing, I got to see my good friend finish his first tri... The list could go on. Thanks to everyone who was there, it was a blast.

  • Comments: I did improve in all but the run and overall it was a very fun race for me. I think that the issues were in personal performance and not the race at all. However, the race organizers should really lay down and indoor/outdoor carpet between the end of the swim and the transition area.

  • Comments: When I got to the finish line, they handed me a coffee cup and a medal. WOW! How did they know I liked coffee so much? AND I got a medal!! Cora and Astrid were waiting for me at the end and welcomed me back. I actually felt pretty emotional for being back to this race after so many years, and for doing it with an injury. A lot has happened since I raced there, and it seems like things have come full-circle. This was a great race. I will be back next year to eat up the course. I hope all my friends will be there with me again.

  • Comments: I waited around the finish area for the awards ceremony to see who the women in my age group were who placed...and then they read my name! I got 3rd in my first tri! Yippee. Now I'm hooked.

  • Comments: This was an enjoyable race. It was really challenging due to the altitude because I am a desert dweller from the Phoenix area. I think it will likely be a race I do each year, with the decision on Sprint, Oly or 1/2 IM to be a year to year decision depending on other races.
